Elizabeth Weir/John Sheppard Appreciation/Ship/Discussion Thread
It'll probably pass with me still wondering what to do with it!
If I get a blowout at a salon, I can get amazingly straight hair. I always try to make that last as long as possible.
Torri had such gorgeous eyes...
Speaking as someone with the world's straightest hair I have to agree with the assessment. It is not only impossible to get natural looking curly hair from straight hair but nearly impossible to keep it that way without making it stiff with hairspray. I have to put a little spray on the top of mine just to keep from looking like a 10 year old boy with a bowl cut. But I've given up perms for life.
Gaaaaah. I watched Marley and me. OMG, I bawled my eyes out at the end. (wanna bet Lizzeh would too?)
Mike Branton! Eeeeeeek. Can Im punch him in the face? Srsly, guys. I hated the very idea of him. (and since I'm in this very strange mood, I think I'm never going to watch NCIS. I mean, ever. Ick.)
OMG! Me too. I hated the NCIS Ducky/Jordan thing. David M is 76 years old. Technically, if you stretch, he could be her grandfather. No, just no. A woman in her fifties would have been too young for him. Hell, I think I'm too young for him. OMG!
Oh, and Marley FTW! I sobbed buckets. My husband had to go in another room and get something out of his eye. LOL

I didn't like the character, either. He was so sure of himself and pretended that he knew Elizabeth better than she did herself. And of course, only John knows Elizabeth's heart
I have this folder with CDs of computer programmes and I can't find it. I hope I didn't loose it, because otherwise my new laptop is not getting MS Office...
Sparky Shipper. Genetically predisposed to being stubborn... really pesky.

And that is precisely what irked me SO MUCH. John does that sometimes too, that "I'm a manly guy and sure of myself" thing, but he never goes that far like the Branton guy. Because, we know, deep inside John isn't that sure of himself, and Elizabeth often puts him at ease and gives him assurance. John, in turn, knows when she's feeling too tired, ill or just in need of amusement and walks into her office to put his butt on her desk and crack a few jokes. At least in my fanon.

I'm so glad we're back to agreeing on everything

I was more bothered with Elizabeth's reaction than Branton's behavior. Branton is a dime a doze style character. I didn't like Elizabeth's wimpy, walk-over-me persona. That was NOT Elizabeth. And it's not like she was the ice-cold female leader who needed to have a guy come in and order her around to bring her back to 'human'; she was personable with everyone, she just took her job seriously.
I don't know what Gero was smoking when he wrote her that way, because he's generally pretty good with making Elizabeth strong. There's no way this woman, who withstood The Siege, jerks like Kavanaugh & Everett, replicator attacks, nanite hallucinations, Genii assaults, bombs, etc would be unable to respond to some guy walking into her office with a "i don't take no for an answer" personality and treating her like she was a cold fish, when she wasn't.
But I think Branton had to be that guy who was incredibly different from John (who was handsome, charming and capable of talking to her) because Gero didn't want to touch anything close to Sparky in Sunday. I mean, there are two huge gaps in the story that he didn't bother with:
1) Ronon should have mentioned Elizabeth when he mentioned Teyla in John's room. I'm sorry, but based on canon, anyone with common sense would have not been able to discern much difference in John's behavior between the two women. John risked his life for Teyla in The Ark; he risked his life for Elizabeth in The Real World. Ronon was there to observe both.
2) John NEVER gets a look at the whole Mike Branton thing, while everyone else does. I still think they kept the storylines separate (while everyone else crossed storylines) because it was easier. John would have reacted in some way, and 99% of that reaction would have been interpreted shippy. And I think we all know John would have been uncomfortable with it, and if you wanted to keep that discomfort 'platonic', he could have been bothered because 1) he wasn't used to seeing Elizabeth like that and 2) it would interfere with her job, the same reservations Elizabeth herself had.
Gero was trying to avoid another 'hug is just a HUG' scenario. Could you imagine? The face John makes in the mess seeing them together? Common sense wise, there's NO WAY in which Gero could have wrote him as being 'disinterested'. That would have been too OOC. He would have had to have a reaction, being the one closest to Elizabeth. And as the shippers squealed Gero would have been like 'he wasn't jealous! He was surprised! Surprised is ALL!' And yelling that for days.

It only proves how BIG sparky is, I think. What? I'm making sense. All Gero was trying to do was ignoring the big, purple, dancing elephant in the room which resulted in a rather weird episode. Why did Ronon mention only Teyla? Was that Gero inserting himself as the voice of shipping deity telling us whom to ship together? Really, why not mentioning Elizabeth? John is usually glued to her hip and always seems to be around her.
The problem is, with John and Elizabeth "the hug is just a hug" scenario couldn't work. Never did, IMO, not even in season 1, because their dynnamics was always loaded with tension - not passion, but a bond, with a meaning and intensity to it, unlike any other SGA relationship. You pointed out very well why Sunday didn't work out that well - you just can't set apart what's organically belonging together, that's like cutting spider's leg and expecting the poor thing to move with equal grace. It doesn't work.
And don't let me even start on Mike/Elizabeth thing. Really, I don't care that she was wearing boots and whatnot and looked gorgeous. Didn't she tell that guy off? With Elizabeth, the "I'm not taking no for an answer" scenario isn't supposed to work, period.
(Also, John would totally bring her coffee and his own paperwork and sit with her in her office. Truelove FTW!).

The tumor bomb was the single mosts tupid way to die in science fiction ever. Right next to getting jettisoned into space and becoming a frozen popsicle (even when that doesn't guarantee the person with naniets is dead because you apparently can't die in SGA, right? If you're Elizabeth Weir they keep bringing you back to kill you over and over, in most ridiculous ways possible).

It makes me want to throw some people out of the next best airlock Because that's what we do with stupid science fiction
We can rescue Elizabeth from the cold of space in the same go!

You are a little angry today, Anuna. After, Mike, NCIS, now it's Gero. But I love what you said.
Time to say goodbye. I will be back in two days. Tomorrow, I will see MUSE!!!!!!!
You will hit 90,000 posts without me. but I hope I will be with you the day we will hit 100,000 posts. (Maybe too much...lol)
Bye and have a lot of fun.

Airlocking! One thing I do agree with Roslin on *g*

What was that quote - when I'm good, I'm good, but when I'm bad I'm the best? Or something like that. pardon my cranky mood. We had absolutely crappy weather today (fog! Whole day it was foggy outside and I definitely didn't like it) and I tend to be cranky when I have to endure bad weather for lenghty periods of time.
R&J is the sort of antithesis of what they were. Young, impassioned love, rather than mature, rational understanding. I will draw comparisons to West Side Story for the outcome, however--the sense of losing something bigger than yourself due to larger forces at work. But I've never seen John and Elizabeth wrapped into passion--it was always 'connection' that could have led to passion had anyone really gone there.
My theatre nerd heart loves you for the WSS reference!

And that's the thing... both Mike and John are pushy. Mike is a pushy jerk. John, however, is only pushy when he knows Elizabeth needs a little push.

Eri, I love you for that post. Because while the idiocy of the 'tumor of doom' is the most obvious part of Sunday that stunk to high heaven, the way that Elizabeth is written so out of character as a stupid pushover, and then how the story oh-so-carefully ignores the giant SPARKY RED elephant dancing the cha-cha in front of the Stargate is in many ways even more of an insult to the audience's intelligence.

Just to spite the fans, no less.

Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon.Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.
