Teyla Emmagan/Ronon Dex Ship/Discussion/Appreciation

The "Tex, "Deyla", etc., names are actually jokes that came from a ship mixing thread. Sheyla is, unfortunately, taken seriously by some Shep/Teyla fans, who obviously haven't "googled" the name.

I actually do prefer using proper names. . Teyla/Ronon, Shep/Weir, Zelenka/Beckett. . .oh, no, no,. . .didn't mean that one.

I'm with Shadow. Name combinations are just stupid in my opinion, and they reduce the characters from the separate entities that they are. Most of them sound ridiculous too. It's not like either of the names involved here take that much effort to type out.

The one that really got me was a mod combining "Sam" and "Amanda". So now we're not separating an actor from one character she portrays...? And here I thought we were supposed to be respectful of the actors here at GW. I thought "Benifer" was pretty bad, but I guess there's always one step lower.

I'm not overly fond of most of the "shipper" names, but hey, can't we just be silly sometimes? No disrespect is intended. If you don't like the combined names, as you obviously don't , just stay off the threads or if you are inclined to post, use the actors or characters full names.

Life is far too short to take everything so seriously. Trust me on that.

As for the Teyla/Dex ship, as was stated by JM in an interview, there won't be one, at least not this season. As I have stated earlier, I'm not overly fond of "ships" on the series, UNLESS they become crucial, integrated parts of the storyline.

You don't want to amalgamate Momoa and Luttrell, I can respect that. Those are real names of real people.

Dex, Teyla, are characters. They aren't real. They're made up for entertainment. And if folks are entertained by combining names, to denote a coupling of some sort, IMO, it's a fine thing. Fandom thrives on different niches that we all fill in our collective creative minds. Otherwise, what's the point of watching?

I'm just not getting tense over made up names in a science fiction show.

I have seen people get far more hysterical over far stupider things than name combinations. I was stating my preference and my reasons.

As for Telya/Dex not happening according to TPTB... Tell that to the fifteen other unsupported or outright denied shipdoms in this section. Just because TPTB say it isn't going to happen doesn't mean folks can't be all for it... and it doesn't mean that said Powers might not change their minds later.

If folks want to support a ship, let them. If you, generally speaking, DON'T support a ship, then stay away from the thread in question and don't try and discourage the thread's denizens.

Anyway, as I've said before, I can see a lot of chemistry between Teyla and Dex. Whether or not it's romantic is entirely subjective. I can see some potential for sparkage and so far, I like it.
