I have a complaint, a big one, about the new forum, I hardly can access the forum, 7 time on 10 I see "Sorry the server is too busy try later" It's really annoying, if these are the results of new forum I want the old back!!!! Please can you do something?

We definitely understand your frustration as we have to deal with as well

However as with any new software we do have to take a little bit of time to tweak it to meet our needs as well as our Server demand needs and that takes a bit of time. So all we can do is ask that you have some patience. over time you will see that all the quirks, the annoyances and server overloads will be a thing of the past

i got another complaint. why has the search been turned off. its most infuriating because i try and look for something and it says search disabled. i am a bit annoyed. not major annoyed but a little put off by this new look Gateworld. and may i ask why its gone like this??

guys, it's been turned off to ease the server strain. VB 3.7 has a bug in it. That is why we're having periodic black outs, the 'who's on' and search have been turned off to help with that.

But important question.... When running a board like this how much does it cost to run? I assume this isn't a free board for the owners and was just curious as was thinking of creating a social networking thingy over here in Australia that would work like gateworld but be social in nature. Was just curious to find out what the actual setup process is and how much it costs?

Costs for the vBulletin software itself just went up a little -- for an owned license it's now going to be somewhere around $180 (still $160 on their site, so I think the new pricing structure hasn't gone into effect), and I think $40 per year to renew access to d/l upgrades.

Hosting is very dependent on the sort of environment you need and how large / busy your site / forum is. It can be quite inexpensive ($10 or less per month), although vBulletin tends to be rather demanding on a server -- as the above posts testify! For a large forum like ours, you're looking at several hundred dollars per month.

Then you need someone to administrate your server and keep the software up-to-date, but fortunately Greg works for GW for mere peanuts.

I thought it would be something along those lines.
"Ah well such is the plans of mice and men" I hadn't figured it would be that expensive. Plus not having an idea of how many people what I was thinking of might attract it's a good thing I haven't actually done anything about it.

We are now wondering and searching, for the SEARCH button, (ironic huh?) Where did it go? It was really helpful when seeking out something, be it a name or a poster in a thread

As mentioned a few posts above due to some conflicts with the new vBulletin Greg has disabled a couple of functions temporarily - that includes the "Who's Online" and the search function. Hopefully they shall return soon

Speaking of the search function why does it return a zero result sometimes even when you use words other then the common words like "the, and, but" etc. Is the parsing range for it that limited?
