you know, it's kinda fun to read feedback for stories you've written 'on the sly' - in other words have people feedback on the story only and not be influenced by who the author isYepp, it's blank down here.

Originally posted by Tracy JaneI agree. And it's kinda revealing too when you get your friends on MSN being brutally honest about a fic. It's really the only time you get honest feedback with no sugar coating. People are reviewing the story, not their friend.

I was saying on the Rage thread, because Spazzy was saying the other night how she wished she could join in, it could be fun to do a Samanda Samfic Secret Santa this way. I mean, as long as we're anonymous like this, there's not too much pressure!Yepp, it's blank down here.

Originally posted by Tracy JaneI was going to tag that at the end of the post and then changed my mind! Great minds, huh? Seriously, though, a lot of the time, people feel the need to enthuse because it's a friend's story, or they will refuse to read because it's by an author they don't like. This way, you give everyone a fair chance with no prejudice.

Or they can send their stories to me and i post them anonymously to gw fanfic
now, the downside to this? I can't edit those pages so they'd have to stay anonymous or soemthing like that
unless someone is better versed on LJ than i am and wants to create a community for a ficathon
I can be the only one to know who's got who thus they'd be totally secret

i like the fair chance
one thing i've seen more than once, and i know it applies to my fic too. 'i only read it because it was yours'
this can be a good thing - and quite flattering - because it exposes people to pairings/ideas they normally wouldn't have read.
on the other hand, i've seen my share of 'i know denise's story is crap but she's my friend so i feel like i HAVE to pimp it and support it.'
fantastic for friendship and loyalty but are folks really doing a good thing in the long run?
it's not good to crush someone's dreams and denegrate their efforts...but if someone is writing junk, is it good to tell them that junk is War and Peace? (no easy answer to this one)
at the end of the day 'good' is a relative term

Originally posted by Skydiverwe could do the secret santa thing. Heck, i'll even 'run' it. set a date to submit the list of 'i want' and 'i don't want', give them about a month or month and a half to write the story then folks post it to GW fanfic.

I suppose when organising, we could have a "Sam Ficathon" Thread on the forum and include the link so that people could find the authors afterwards once a list has been added to the first post of the thread. It would take a little thinking and planning, but it's a fun idea and I think we have enough writers on Samanda to pull it off.Yepp, it's blank down here.

I think, though, there is such a thing as constructive criticism. My pedagogics tutor used to call it a "sh*t sandwich". You start off with what was good, then say what was bad, then tell them how to improve it. I think with fanfic, you have to be a little more subtle than that; really emphasise the good parts, but I still think there's room to tell the authors what needs to be improved, as long as it's tactful and constructive.Yepp, it's blank down here.
