yes, sam is massively popular. and to me, that's one reason she's such a threat.
if you like one actor and then there's a second one who some perceive to be as good as or better than the first, you'll see that second as a threat.
again, still speaking very broadly about just a few of the ardent anti-sammers....but many of them see sam as a threat to daniel. every line that sam had, daniel could have had. every scene with jack she had, well that COULD have been daniel.
it's almost like some are jealous of sam's ability adn popularity.
i think that's one reason they like vala. she's no threat at all. now, i will admit that i do like the side of daniel that vala brings out. to me, MS does a far better job doing comedy than he does drama and claudia loosens him up enough that he forgets that he's acting and he actually acts better, more natural when she's around. so in that way, vala is good for daniel
however, i for one don't care for that aspect of vala. i don't care for the sex and such. i think it's trite and cliche. i like the deeper aspect of her, the ex-host part. however we don't seem to get much of that, we get the easier to sell sexy part.
If RDA leaving the show was a blow, sam leaving the show will be even more of one. she is just as popular as RDA and her character is just as vital
the strength of sg1, until this last season, has always been a sum of its parts. everyone contributed bits and pieces to teh whole. With rda gone, part of that is gone. Cam is trying, but he's just not jack adn i don't know if he will be allowed to develop his own character ornot.

if rda is gone, and at is gone, i have serious doubts that anyone can fill that hole and even attempt to keep teh show as SG1. It won't be the same simply because too much will be gone.

! Now she maybe has even less time to practice her lines. But even before Olivia was born I could only think of one word! (2 actually): chapeau and respect! (with chapeau I mean, well done, great work, I think ya know what I wanna say).
