Nearly all of them were great characters. Indeed, it was a hard choice, but I chose O'Brien. The banter between O'Brien and Bashir was excellent. They played well off each other

Bashir was the one I drooled over (those eyes, that voice, those endless legs...)
        Oh, yes, that voice... *THUNK*

Bashir and O'Brien were comedy gold
        Best of DS9, right there.

I remember that ep! "Badda-bing, Badda-bang," right? Ezri looked so cute in that getup!

I voted for Jadzia Dax...but Garak is a very close second.

Jadzia for the girls, Bashir for the boys. But god they could both be a pain in the neck .. Plus Major Kira's improbable chest still has a place in my heart.

Darn you Skydiver; what a terrible thing to ask, such a tough choice.

In the end Garak won out over Bashir by a nose, hair, something. Now I feel bad like I should have voted for Julian; can we say wishy-washy.

                    Quark

                    Bashir a close 2nd.
Science Fiction is an existential metaphor; it allows us to tell stories about the human condition.

Isaac Asimov once said individual science fiction stories may seem as trivial as ever to the blinder critics and philosophers of today, but the core of science fiction, its essence has become crucial to our salvation if we are to be saved at all.

Bashir and Odo. Maybe Odo slightly more.

I voted for Quark because he is unique in all of science fiction. At the same time, he is a main character who is both protagonist and antagonist. His lust for profit and general sneakiness with an undertone of gradual redemption make for a tasty mix. He also understands hoomans better than most of us understand ourselves and is frequently the mouthpiece for profound statements about what it means to be human. All of this would only get a nomination, but the man who plays him adds a lot of nuance and passion to the part.

A number of these statements also apply to Garak..

Funny how the bad guys always have most fans than everybody else...Garak is on the top of the list !

But my favorite is Dr. Bashir. He and Garak had good scenes together, though.

                              Hard to say really.

DS9 had more overall characters than other Trek series I can think of, so they introduced a lot of great characters like Garak, Quark, Sisko, Rom, Jadzea, Morn and then there is of course Worf being carried over from TNG.

I'm usually crappy with faves, and fave DS9 is a tough one, but i'd probably go with Sisko or Worf.
