Didn't notice anything about the size, but it seemed brighter now. That could affect how big the room seems.

Didn't notice the bot the first time around. Such a little trooper, always on the job. Now it just needs to be powered by liquor so it can visit the bar.

Just found the following image, appears they made the floor alot deeper than it was previously.

Comparing that image to the one we see in the episode, it look like the CGI people built an entirely new set for the scene.
Not only are the floors much deeper, but there extra stair cases, extra doors an a slight different design to the dome. Extra paneling on the walls, what look like different design lights an fewer of them.

The image in the above link does look a bit low on detail an resolution which could explain why they chose to do a complete redesign and rebuild for future episodes. Which points to this set being use a lot in future episodes.
Or the room was way more damage than the hole in the doom an the repair bot rebuilt the entire room from scratch an did some redesigning why it was at it.
Also either the crew found some custom built planting pots fitted to the room or they appeared out of nowhere to. Or the repair bot is able to manufacture those to.
In which case please give Geer lessons on how to use it to build weapons, would love to see what he come up with.

Something like the repair bot would be a necessity for any long term mission like this. It makes sense.

I am glad they introduced it. I was getting sick of the constant struggle for basic survival.
Thing is... a ship like Destiny would have literally hundreds of repair bots going all the time (with repair bots fixing repair bots too) It would be the only thing possible if the ship was going to function at all. I know the Ancients built to last (as the gates have survived for millions of years) but Destiny seems to be made of some other alloy, not naquadah, since it is shown to be corroded and we have never seen a rusty stargate. The bots would have to have been programmed to repair the ship constantly to perform routine maintenance. Nothing with moving parts will last forever unmaintained. Atlantis was ruined in some sections by the ocean and it was only there for 10,000 years. Destiny has been traveling, jumping in and out of FTL, docking with seeder ships, fighting off enemies for a million years... they should have encountered repair bots crawling all over the ship, not stored in a box somewhere.

You'd think you could put the plants inside the ship since the dome doesn't really provide reliable access to sunlight and its an awfully big risk to put your food supply so close to space.
Agreed, using the dome for the food is stupid. Starlight doesn't provide the necessary spectrum for plants and they are rarely close enough to a star (besides refueling) for it to make any difference, so why put it there. I wouldn't be worried about the dome breaking and exposing the plants to space (since the shield would keep the air in) but it would take much more growth lighting to illuminate that massive room than it would a smaller storage area. How many sunlamps did they bring with them? LOL

They seriously underestimate the intensity of a star on this show. Even if the shields protected the ship from the heat, the pure photons of light would incinerate anything standing next to a window. The shield is shown to be transparent (not opaque) so the light would get through and transfer enough energy to cook anything organic instantly. The movie "Sunshine" does a good job showing this effect. As you get closer to the Sun the light becomes unbelievably intense, trillions upon trillions upon trillions of photons impacting the surface per centimeter. It would be hilarious if next time Destiny refueled all their food went up in flames.

In the episode "Light" there were several scenes from the observation deck when they were gliding right above the sun. So clearly the writers are not making an issue of the amount of light that does get through the shield.

Light intensity is something you have to file under suspension of disbelief.

The reason they are growing food there is because it the single biggest room on destiny from what we have seen so far.

They need a lot of space to grow the amount of food needed to feed the entire crew. I doubt even the dome room would provide enough. But the biggest so why not start there.

                      Spoiler:
rumor has it that later on this season we'll be seeing a massive new set that they built. wondering if this could have something to do with it.

The repair bot really should have a name. Angus McArcweld is my suggestion.

Actually, it's not that much of a stretch to believe that the shield is attenuating the light to less-than-lethal levels. Remember that when they ejected the Kino behind the shuttle, it only transmitted as long as it was out of the direct sunlight. As soon as it was lit, it got zapped.

It was nice to see the repair bot again The dome room looks really impressive, although I too wonder about the sunlight issue.

Yeah it looks like they redesigned the dome room to make it much larger than before.
Higher walls, deeper floor, longer stairs, different barriers, etc.
i hope they make more use of this room in future episodes
