Tok'ra Thunk/Discussion/Appreciation thread

Advantages: good, close friend is always there, health, long life, fighting for a good cause, glowing eyes , sexy symbiote voice, ability to use hand device...

Disadvantages: danger from Goa'uld attacks

Some of your advantages could be seen as disadvantages under some circumstances. Get stuck with an annoying/not-so-good symbiote, and the lack of privacy and possibility of missions you don't approve of goes up. I could see a lot of people seeing that as an issue, but as long as you get to know the symbiote before blending, I don't think it's a big one. Also, having to share your life—even if you start to feel and think relatively similarly, you still have to share all the decisions you make. The whole thing is a bit like getting married or having children, only more so in some ways, because it's a commitment and could turn out really rotten if you made a bad choice.

But looking at the situation from a purely objective point of view, the advantages are much higher than the disadvantages, and even the disadvantages could be advantages for a lot of people.

Yeah, that's pretty much my list too...
Only, just the other day, my Mum actually listed several of those points as disadvantages. Sounds like a common thread that most Humans just aren't that into the idea... the very things that attract us to the Tok'ra seem to be less than desirable to most. Odd, that, eh?

Well, no matter what the issue, there will always be more than one side...most females (especially) adore chocolate, but I would rather eat carrots. *shrugs*

Actually I wouldn't like to be one.
While I don't agree with all of their methods. It's way too long term or you'll just be left behind for the greater good. Plus it's very personal, they know all about you and the next host will know all that you've done and thought, I'm way to private for that.
But I would definitely love to work with them and fight beside them.

And Tiger, I can see where you're coming from, how it would be an invasion of privacy. (If I couldn't understand it, I wouldn't be writing a fic about Sam and Jolinar )I'm not a private person, which is surprising considering how much time I spend alone. But I'm very open with everything—emotions, opinions, etceteras. I'm one of those people who feels wrong asking to be paid for my creations, and wonders how other authors/artists/musicians can do it so naturally, because I think everything should be public and free. So being even more sharing is not an issue for me at all.

I am a VERY private person - to the point were I tell nothing about myself and have real problems talking to people I don't know extremely well. I never share my emotions with anyone unless I have known them for many years - often not even then.
Even sending emails to strangers is a problem for me. However - I would simply LOVE to be a host and I have no problems whatsoever sharing everything with a symbiote. I think the difference is that this person will be closer to you than everyone else, and hopefully a very good friend. I do not mind sharing all with a Tok'ra.

As for the other thing - I agree totally with you, MerryK. I believe all should be public and free. I actually think doing things any other way is keeping back the development of the human race. I would happily share anything I create.

Jacob said Salmac couldn't hide his betrayel feelings from him. So I guess thoughts are your own, maybe?

But I kinda take it as being blended means it's practically no holds barred. Which can be nice, someone knows you, how you think, react and why; so judgement is gone.

Did they say they rushed the blending with Kanin and O'Neill?

It was a rushed one, since it was only meant to be temporary... I think someone said it not too long ago, but it seems to me like he saw how Jack's mind worked and decided it would be best for both if they didn't blend.
Also, I agree on the free topic. Almost sounds like true communism, actually... by which I mean the "ideal" version that requires society to be intelligent, not the state capitalism thing they did in Russia/China etc. That's just oppressive and sucktacular LOL

I agree on both points—I think that Tok'ra and Goa'uld do a basic blending upon entering, but a full blending takes time and conscious effort. And yeah, practically I'm more capitalist, but ideally I prefer socialism/communism.

Yes, I also think they both blend somewhat immediately, but then can chose to do the full blending or not (Goa'uld chose not - Tok'ra generally chose to do it). I guess that no matter what they slowly blend somewhat over time, especially the Tok'ra who does not suppress the host.

Yep, that is a problem...I consider Selmak female as well. You could perhaps order after the symbiote's 'gender-preference', if known. I suppose we only know that for Jolinar, who preferred to be female - and Egeria, of course, who are female in any definition. Never mind - it doesn't matter. Let's just go by the host for now...here are my votes:
