Bloodlines. Does it bother anyone else that Teal'c abandoned his family? I know it was extreme circumstances and I know it turned out as best for the entire Jaffa race... and while I sigh over these types of heros like Rob Roy - I also know I would not want to be the woman left at home, with children, UNPROTECTED. It really gauls me even as it turns me on.

I mean, what if Bra'tac had not been there to provide a moral compass/male role model? And I have no doubt that had Bra'tac not been there, it would not have changed Teal'c's decision one whit.

Personally I can't imagine leaving my loved one's behind or how Teal'c was able to do it until I think about the fact that he's not human. Teal'c was raised in a completely different world with beliefs very different from our own. It's not until later seasons that we see him loosen up a little and become a softer man, but he'll always be that battle-worn and experience warrior.

As to Kendra and Sam - can I feed the plot bunnies? What if SG1 had to return to Cimmeria and Kendra somehow was a Valkerye (non-spellcheck) that only Sam coud hear? Jack, of course, would think she's crazy.

(Side note - it always makes me crazy in sci-fi shows where the characters experience crazy stuff all the time but then something like Orlin happens or those creatures from another dimension that Jonas Q saw first and everybody thinks you're crazy! I mean squawk like a chicken one time...) lol

Random thoughts on Teal'c leaving his family:

I highly doubt he spent all that much time with his family to begin with given that he was the First Prime of Apophis. My guess is that the more favor he gained with Apophis, the better off his family was and the more honor they had in the community. It strikes me that the female Jaffa who are wedded tend to the house and the home, and the raising of the children. If they have a boy, I'm sure there's an age (like 12 or 13) where they're taken off to begin training.

Kind of makes me think of a feudal system or something along those lines. Teal'c's abandoning of his family is because he sees something to be attained - freedom - and that, in his mind, is the greatest gift he could give his son.

I know you're right, Nynaeve, I just wouldn't want to be the wife of those great figures in history. I guess that means I'm selfish. . But ever so grateful to those that have sacrificed.

Of course it wasn't easy on Teal'c or his family, but he made the sacrifice for his son. Yes, he could have stayed in Chulak, although as already said, he probably never spent much time there... But then his son would have grown up to be a slave... I think Teal'c actually didn't have a choice. This was the vey best thing he could do for his son.

Ha! No wonder i didn't get it. No way were you "over the top" when I think of all the thunking and gutter splashes we have done in ths thread... quite complimentary is all.
