I realize that's intended as a double-entendre, but it's true. In an automatic, the transmission reacts after whatever it is has happened: it guesses the gear it should be based on what the car is doing. In a manual -- if you know what you're doing -- you tell the transmission what to do before or as it happens, which takes strain off the engine. It's also why you can first-reverse-first-reverse your way out of being stuck in a manual and be fine whereas you damage the car if you try it with an automatic.

My Dad was a mechanic. He was absolutely insistent my first car had to be a manual.

Well, the difference between "flirting" and "harassment" is the reaction of the recipient and documentation. Guys -- at least the guys I know -- tend to regard a woman going out of her way to check him out flattering instead of repulsive, even if they don't reciprocate the attraction or if she's his boss.

It's not unusal for us to get several feet of snow in March, with the exception of that past few warm years, at least one snow storm that shuts everything down cause you can't get out into the streets until the snowplows come.

Yes, he does have a rather nice touche, doesn't he!
You know that uniform tends to make Radek look a tad bit heavy, but David is really slender.

Smart guy! Manual transmission vehicles tend to to be cheaper as well!

Actually, I was referring to the fact that Radek's nipples always show through his shirt and yet all the women wearing similar shirts manage to hide what can be embarassing situation. Layers don't always work to cover that up for women.

      Spoiler:

I agree, flirting and harassment is all in the eyes of the person it is happening too. It does seem that guys in general do seem to take a woman making a comment more as flattering. Alot of women as they get older tend to do the same thing. Course if someone comes off as aggressive then it is not taken as flattering at all.

The uniform lends kind of a shapelessness unless it fits snugly, and Radek's clothing tends to be a bit baggy. Although... as you point out below, some things stand out anyway.

Don't I know that, from my self-conscious teenage years long ago, when I wished for metal-lined bras or something! Anything! I felt everyone must be staring... Of course, now I don't care.

Although it's fun to stare at those pics you just posted! Yum...

The baggy clothes look kind of goes with the unmanageable hair look! Which is different from S1 when Radek's shirts were tucked in.

So cool The Pegasus Project is on Scifi right now! I get my Friday dose of Radek! Yeah!

It's hard not to get self-conscious as people tend not to be so subtle when they stare at that particular look on women and as teens generally are more self-conscious it does make you want to crawl in a hole and not come out!

In just the shirt and pants, yes. ^^ But when they add that ginormous jacket in there he looks like he couldn't scrap up 90 pounds soaking wet. He just looks so tiny.

Ah, that. I think it's sort of shoved in there with butt-scratching or crotch-adustment in public. Guys don't really notice amongst themselves and women excuse it as "guys being guys."

Whether that's about Keller only liking him because he's a famous genius or only liking him because he's well-endowed, that's funny, right there.

LOL. Those jackets do make it look like Radek is swimming in them! Ahh well, just adds to the image of Radek being a bit unkempt!

Just a quick thunk from "Thirty-Eight Minutes" before bed.

                      Spoiler:

I'd seen SG-1 off and on during its original run until I moved out on my own. I liked it enough to tune in every week or so, though not enough to go the full-on fandom route. Tzi went on and on about Atlantis, but I'd never seen any of the episodes, so I just sort of blew off her squee. Finally I saw "Doppleganger" while I was house-sitting for people with cable and, man, I was not impressed. I gave up at the end of Teyla's dream.

Tzi insisted that Doppleganger was really just fan-service porn and made no sense unless you'd watched the show for awhile. She insisted I needed to give SGA a real try, so I hopped onto my Netflix account and had season 1 shipped my way.

"Rising" and "Hide and Seek" didn't do the trick. Sheppard as nice and all, but kinda dumb. I really didn't get what Tzi's swooning over McKay was all about. Teyla was mildly interesting, as was Weir, and Ford was practically flatline. The setup was nice, but nothing special, you know? Certainly not as mythic as SG-1's Goa'uld had been, and Sheppard didn't quite have Jack's way with the one-liner.

Then there was "Thirty-Eight Minutes." It was a bottle episode, ho-hum, freaky alien bug, Sheppard in danger, leader lady's kinda panicky, blah blah, who cares? This was what Tzi went on and on about?

Then there was this little guy with glasses standing on a stool to work. He was an island of calm. While Kavanagh's think tank was trying to figure out what the heck the problem was, Radek already had a Jumper torn apart running simulations to fix it. His accent was seriously attractive, his smile was sweet, and he was nice to Weir even though holding her down and pouring Rescue Remedy down her throat wouldn't have been amiss.

I kept watching the episode just to see if he'd turn up again, and he did. He actually came up with something helpful for McKay, unlike the think tank. I'd heard Tzi mention Zelenka before every now and then, so I kept watching the season just to see when he'd turn up again.

Somewhere along the way I got hooked on the series itself, on the city and the Team and even McKay. I liked it enough to rent -- and later buy -- all four seasons of DVDs, and to go back and watch the SG-1 eps I missed after I moved out. ^^

Zelenka's the best. Brains without the mean. (And yes, I do have a soft spot for "38 Minutes".)

That's really cool DragonLady. I liked reading about how you got into the show.

A few folks on my LiveJournal friends list watched Atlantis, and wrote reaction posts every week. The bits they posted about it always sounded interesting, so right after Season 4 ended I finally decided to see an episode and give it a try. The first ep I could get my hands on happened to be Quarantine. I was immediately hooked, and instantly a huge Zelenka fan- I thought he was so adorable. The other characters were fun and interesting and quirky too (and I knew a little about them from reading), but Zelenka became my permanent favorite. A cute, sweet, smart, spunky little guy who saved the day. I guess that was a good episode to start out with.

I wanted to go back and watch the entire series from the beginning, and I managed to finish that just before Season 5 started. By that time I was completely into the show and even got into the fandom quite a bit.

It took me all those months of seeing posts go by on LJ to finally get around to checking it out, but I'm so glad I did!

                        Spoiler:

Now I'm in the process of catching up with SG-1, which I'd only seen a couple of scattered episodes of (and those only in Season 1). I'm partway through Season 2 now and I'm enjoying it, but I do miss Atlantis, and occasionally go back and re-watch an ep- the other night I watched the excellent First Contact / Lost Tribe 2 parter again.

I've watched Stargate since the 1st year in went into syndication and I have been hooked on Stargate ever since. When my daugher was younger, during the long winter weekends we would pop in a DVD and watch an episode or two while eating lunch. She liked Stargate until she started High School and then Scifi was for the geeks!
Universe will most likely be the exception of me watching on a regular basis. Until they find a better way to market the show other then slap their older viewers in the face like they did when they first announced SGU, I'm not inclined to stay as loyal as I use to.
They may treat actors that way, the business can be tough on them as they get older, however fans are not actors and are not in the business to be treated like that.
I will probably watch Universe but will no longer keep Friday nights reserved for watching Stargate, if I'm home great, if not I will catch it another time.

And I'm really gonna miss Radek!

I'll probably give it a try. Since I never actually see the shows the night they're broadcast, scheduling isn't an issue for me. I might even wait to see if people in general love it or it gets panned, before spending my time. I too was a little disgruntled at the tone towards us older viewers! As well as the stated assumption that we'd watch anyway because we needed our SG "fix."

Radek is the one I'll miss the most, definitely! Especially since there have been hints that the movie will be delayed.
