Yeah...I know it makes sense...but I thought I read somewhere that the first ep was going to concentrate on Dean and Lisa...maybe I dreamt it...or maybe it was a nightmare!!
Squee - we got pix! Thanks for these, MWB, they made my day.
Judging from the second picture, Sam had something to do with bringing Grandaddy back. That smug look on his face, and Dean's totally thunderstruck impression seems to indicate it.
It will be interesting to see if you are right on that one.

MS - "Boy, wow that's a great question!"
"...phu...ah..."
"Anyone know what SENTIENT means???"
Sunday is my favorite day for two reasons - Football and The Walking Dead
Supernatural - Episode 6.01 - Exile on Main St. - Press Release
MITCH PILEGGI (“X-Files,†“Sons of Anarchyâ€) RETURNS AS DEAN AND SAM’S GRANDFATHER — It’s a year later and Dean (Jensen Ackles) has given up hunting and is living with Lisa (guest star Cindy Sampson) and her son Ben (guest star Nicholas Elia). Mysteriously freed from his cage in hell, Sam (Jared Padalecki) finds Dean and tells him he needs to rejoin the fight and introduces Dean to a world—a family—he never even knew existed.... the Campbells, his mother’s family, lead by none other than their Grandfather Samuel (Pileggi). Phil Sgrricia directed the episode written by Sera Gamble (#601).
Thanks for this, MWB. I'm getting so excited, now that this hellatus is nearing its end...
Based on this, I thought at first that Gramps Samuel wasn't brought back from the dead after, but actually survived the attack by the YED. I mean, it's feasible. Last time we saw him, it could have been he was only unconscious, and they managed to save him.
On the other hand, in The Song Remains the Same John says there that 'Mary's father was a Sam', and later tells the boys how tragic it was that he died of a heart attack. But still, it could be that Mary just claimed that her father was dead to protect him from the YED, and Samuel went into hiding.
In any case, I'm sure the explanation will be interesting.

There would also be an age problem, because Samuel Campbell would be about 70-80 now, and that's apparently not the case.
