Iris on the Ori supergate

If we put an Iris on the Ori Supergate, whats to stop the ships that are already in the galaxy from just going to destroy it.

I don't know if this has been brought up before, I've tried to search for it but have'nt found anything. Although I have to admit that my search wasn't really thorough.

My question would be: why not make an iris on the ori supergate? That would prevent unwanted visitors from coming to the MW.

That's a good idea as long as you can control the supergate. What's to prevent the Ori from returning and finding an Iris and removing it?

The oddy would be their only hope but it would only be able to take out ships that are travelling on their own, if there are anymore the Oddy would be overwhelmed.

what about that episode when everybody got together and started shooting at the ori ships?
they still maintain claoked scouts in the vincinity of the supergate, maybe have a fleet on standby patrolong the area around the gate?

You mean the episode where they did completely nothing to the Ori ships? Lol, it's 'Camelot' btw. The only thing that works against the Ori is the Asgard beams and the Oddy can't take 7 ships on by itself.

While building a iris might sound cool, weather it be a shield or metal, it makes no sense.

If thier dialed in then that means no one can come through, basic gate travel.

But if the gate is inactive just remoave the main control crystal, thus rendering the gate unable to activate. And when you want to activate it again just put it in and dial.

That's what I was going to say, the best they can do is what they were doing up until recently, sustain an outgoing wormhole.

Presumably the links have permanently sealed each section of the supergate, it would probably be near impossible to dismantle it. The whole iris idea is quite stupid if you ask me. If its metal, the ori ships already here could probably push its way through any defense we have and just blast the crap out of the iris like it would to a really thin ship's hull. If its like Atlantis's iris it would just be depleted at an almost unimaginable rate. The best idea someone could propose to neutralize it is keep it active again or find a way to bury the gate.

I'm assuming were talking before the events of [SPOILERS]The Ark of Truth.[SPOILERS] If was before then don't you think the Ori would be a little angry if we tried to put on an iris. If its after the movie, there would be no need to put an iris on the Supergate considering that the Ori would be defeated
