I remeber that Sam said that persons or objects carry their momentum through the wormole to the other side and it wouldn't come out on the other side wihout the whole object(with teal'c included) entering the event horizon. So sry no plot hole here.

You know, now that I think about it, it can work without violating the discrete units problem. The problem is that for the spear to embed in the rock and provide tension in the cable, half of the cable would have to be on one side, and half on the other.

But if the spear is assumed to stay in the buffer, allowing Teal'C to adjust cable length before stepping through, it can appear to work the same way. The spear would actually embed itself only once Teal'C steps through, which can allow him a fraction of a second to shorten the cable enough so as not to fall back through the "event horizon".

The problem comes with cable length and such. Plus the rather odd momentum conserving property working on two objects coming out at the same time and...well, to be honest, the devil's in the details, as they say.

It really depends on how time flow is simulated within the buffer. It has to be simulated, but if time slows down the further "into" the buffer space you go, it can, in principal, work. Yeah, the cable would still end up with a whole lot of slack on the other side, but presumably, there is a bit of time to pick it up.

u know what i always wanted to know, lets say the gate is knocked down laying face up and someone comes thru the face up gate , now gates only allow matter to travel one way thru them , so what would happen to say a jaffa that came thru the gate rematterise then fall back into the still active gate?
