    >> From Infirmary via Stairs >>

After having zigzagged and fired off several rounds towards the more than a little annoying fur-balls, they finally reached the next floor and Tim slowly opened the door, the TER at the ready.
The corridor in front of them was glowing in the red from the emergency lighting and every now and then, a spark came from the lamps in the ceiling, accompanied by a high pitched scream… If it came out of joy …or pain for that matter… was impossible to say. At least there were no humans in sight that could get injured in the process.
“Oh crap… Looks like they’ve partied wild up here.” Tim turned to look at Patrick, “Does ‘Gremlins’ ring a bell? You know; cute and furry at first and then comes that thing about not feeding them after midnight?”

Staff Sergeant Patrick smiled and replied; "I must admit that I have never seen that movie, but I know what you mean." He looked around at the various lights that had blown and the sparking conduits on the walls and roof. It wasn't pretty. He headed towards the quarters opposite the stairwell, to check how they faired.

Staff Sergeant Patrick reached for his radio as he carefully opened the doors to the quarters opposite the stairwell; "The lights up here have taken a battering, and some of the electrical conduits are still sparking." He took another look around, and added; "But nothing of note Flight Lieutenant. Have you found anything down there?"

Patrick continued checking rooms, some of them unharmed while others had the occasional creature pop up inside them. He soon made up for his initial bad shot and took out a number of the creatures.

Suddenly he had a thought, and checked back at the rooms that had no lights or any electronic devices running. There were no signs of the creatures, while the other rooms with running devices had creature signs. Concidence?

"Hey, Foster, have you noticed that they only bother places with active electricity? What happens if we switch off power to a section?"

For some reason he felt sorry for the little creatures as he took them down one by one in the quarters; they were harming the base – yes, but so far they hadn’t hurt anyone.
Tim frowned and shot Patrick a fast glance over his shoulder from where he stood outside Dr Williams quarters, about to turn left and proceed down the hall.
“Might work. We don’t really have anything to lose, do we?”
He clicked on his radio and looked up towards the security camera as he spoke, “Foster to security. We’ve got an idea we’d like to try. It seems as if these creatures have a love for energy… Can you cut the power to level 7 to see what happens to them? Over.”
Tim felt something brush against his leg and took an involuntary step back. The Furby followed his movement and rubbed its side towards his leg a few times, and then, before he had a chance to get his aim right, the fur-ball slid right through his foot and continued trough the floor with a soft ‘pop’.
Tim shuddered and swallowed hard, “Okaaayy, that was weird…”

The entirety of sub-level 7 suddenly went dark - and the auxiliary power kicked in, lighting up red lights in the hallways.

A voice boomed throughout the floor's comm. speakers.
"Sub Level 7 is now on auxiliary power only. Foster, keep us current with updates - if this works we need to know."

All the creatures which had previously been bouncing around Foster and Patrick dispersed. There we no more to be found within the hallways or quarters. Except for the occasional one passing vertically through the floor, there were none to be found...

              <Sub-Level 7 - Quarters>

A voice boomed throughout the floor's comm. speakers.
"Sub Level 7 is now on auxiliary power only. Foster, keep us current with updates - if this works we need to know."
Staff Sergeant Patrick watched as the lights, consoles, and other such devices around him switched off when the power went out. Feeling happy he had switched off his computer, as sudden power loss was something he never approved of when it came to computers, he looked around for the creatures while the auxiliary power kicked in. The creatures all headed up or down through the roof and floor, respectively. Within a few moments, they had all gone completely from the level.

To make sure they had all gone, Patrick headed to one end of the level and checked the quarters over there, before working his way back across the level checking random rooms where he had previously seen the things until he reached the other side. They were all gone. Occasionally one would quickly slide down or up between the levels, but none lingered there.

Feeling happy with himself for the suggestion, he picked up his radio and called the security office: "Patrick to Security. The creatures appear to have dispersed from the level as far as we can see. I think it worked."

Patrick returned to find the Technical Sergeant and said with a grin: "See, that's what you need us geeks for!" Having had his chance to enjoy his suggestion working, he turned serious and asked: "So, now what do we do?"

Slipping a sigh of relief as the Furbies disappeared out of sight, Tim turned towards Patrick and chuckled, “Yeah, I’ll keep that in mind next time I step through the gate to patch your sorry @$$ up because you’ve forgot everything your mum taught you about ‘Hands off’”
They made a sweep around the quarters to make sure all creatures were gone before Tim had made up his mind. He rubbed his neck, “Well, since they obviously have an affection for electricity, and apparently an IQ slightly above a plant, they’re probably heading for the next best thing; the auxiliary power on level 10. I’d say that’s our next stop…”
Tim clicked his radio, “Foster to security. We’re thinking about heading down to level 10… Since they left here when the power went out, maybe that’s where they hang out. Over.”
The bar scene from ‘Gremlins’ couldn’t have popped up at a more convenient time…

"I was always taught that 'the burnt hand teaches best', so 'hands off' was never something I spent too much time with." Patrick replied to Foster's comment, and then added: "Besides, I wouldn't want to put you out of a job."

It was obvious to Staff Sergeant Patrick that the creatures liked power and it made sense that they would head down to the generator level; "That makes sense, to me. Level 10 it is."

The Staff Sergeant waited until his friend radioed in their intentions to head down to sub-level 10, before heading over to the stairwell and down to sub-level 10. On the way they passed a number of the creatures, although none posed them any threat.

Joseph walked till he found the room with Thor in it. When he finally found it, he straightened out his dress uniform and knocked on the door. He decided to wait outside until he heard Thor give him permission to go in. Captain Laport hoped that Thor would appreciate the gesture because with most guests, they would knock once then enter. Hopefully, this would show that they respected him enough to wait for permission to enter the room.

Dandon opened the door carefully with gun in hand to see Joseph standing there, waiting patiently.

                              "Captain!"
Dandon quickly came to attention and holstered his side arm. "Come on in, sir."

Inside the room Thor stood by his machine he had brought from home. The metallic object, about as big as a coffin, floated off of the ground right in front of Thor.

Thor, who stood next to the machine and moved stones around, was looking up at the beam of light protruding from the device. In the center of the room, the light beam from the device turned into a circle - in the middle of which was held a small fuzzy purplish creature...

Joseph eyed everything in the room and then he leaned in towards the Airman, as not to disturb Thor, "At ease, Airman. Everything alright and what is that purple creature?"

Captain Laport watched the floating purple creature as the Airman answered the question.
