Dunno. Perhaps I'm just the biggest idiot walking around.

No way! It just shows that you really care for her and your friendship. That is never a bad thing, although we get hurt by caring. It's the nature of life, falling down and getting hurt, then we go right back and try again! It's the only way to find good things in life, take chances. Problem is, sometimes people change and grow apart, and you can't do much about it.
I went through the same kind of thing with my "best friend" since we were 5 years old. One day when we began high school she decided she wanted all new friends, and we have not been friends since. I always tried to give her more chances, because I loved her like a sister, but something changed and it really didn't have much to do with me. I think she didn't like her life, her family, and her past, so she changed. There's an old saying: "If you love someone, set them free".
The good news is you will make new friends, and even if there are not a lot of them, it's quality that counts. My best advice is learn to be a best friend to yourself, don't change who you are just to be popular, do things that you love and people will like you for who you are. Oh, and don't take people so seriously, because we change everyday, it's only natural.

And another thing (oh, here I go again!) consider Robert Carlyle. If he had done things just to be popular, he would not be the respected and great actor he is. He would have gone "Hollywood" and become just another jerk. And he certainly wouldn't have ever gotten out of poverty and become anything if he let people destroy his sense of self worth. That's why he talks so highly of his father, he gave him the strength to accomplish his goals and value himself.
I've heard Robert say "you just have to ignore some people and get on with it".

Oh YES!!!!! I'm glad he didn't become a "Hollywood jerk" like other actors. He's still independet from this milieu and still makes these lovely films like "Summer".

Teyla, trust me on this one, but as you get older, you will find that you will shed a few friends, especially those you've out-growned. As that happens, don't forget that there's a whole slew of new friends to be had. There's gonna be a few that you will keep for life, even if you haven't spoken to them in months. Relationship always changes when one is dating another person. It is what it is. Embrace it and let go. In your heart, you thank the person for the friendship and how it contributed to your growth as a human being. Then rub your hands together and eagerly anticipate who you will be making new friends with. You're only alone if you let it be like that. Hugs!!!!!!
