Seriously, the US shouldn't runt he Stargate program by themselves... and they can't because they can't afford too. Ohh and, because they had to tell the major world leaders about it, and do you think Russia, or China will not tell the entire world about its existence if they were cut out of the program?

    The irony of both statements....

The UN is highly ineffective at maintaining world peace. They use largely American troops. There are 192 Sovereign states with highly contradicting ideologies of human rights. It's so morally relative on who's peace is the right peace no wonder wars and even minor conflicts remain a constant problem.

China still stands in against gender, Russia still stands against religion.

The IOA has created more problems than solutions.
Like the United Nations the program they represent is situated on American Soil, uses a majority of American Troops.

Really both organizations are puppet extensions The US Political Foreign Relations goals...a pacifier.

Not at all accurate - though this isn't the place to discuss real world politics.

My point was, despite the fact the UN doesn't have the teeth it needs it does serve a purpose - just like the IOA does. The difference is the IOA does have teeth.

Err the UN often doesn’t use US troops, that’s often why their peace keeping forces are so ineffectual. When poorly trained, poorly armed troops from African nations rock up on peace keeping missions they often do more harm than good.

Exactly. The UN's sole purpose is to provide a forum for resolving situations without violence; in effect, as long as no World War III erupts, the United Nations is doing its job. Many people (myself included) would love to see the organization's mandate and authority expanded, but that can't happen until most of those 192 nations fall in line with a uniform policy on basic civil rights and political ideologies. Otherwise, we run the risk of having a large group of repressive dictatorships pass binding resolutions that strip away the liberty and democracy from the smaller group of republics.

That said, the IOA serves a very important function, as it focuses the world's interstellar efforts in one group, and funnels worldwide funds and intelligence into a usable pot.

            I haven't seen any teeth.
Unless you're talking about strong arming the Stargate program right before they need to say the Earth.

Interesting. I've heard the opposite arguement in terms of the reason for the rise in sexual crimes in relation to American peace keeping troops.

If that was the US goal then why did the Americans give the Chinese a 304, putting the Chinese on equal footings with the American forces.

                How could not?
They all tend to cry unfair over the littlest thing but notice who controls the gate. THe superpowers and the US has Two of them.

                  • Atlantis is on Earth (As far as we know)
                  • No big bad (Goa'uld, Ori, etc) = no need for extra funding
                  • The annoyance they cause to the Air Force

At this point the U.S. Government could cut off the rest of the world from participation in the Stargate program, kick all international personnel out of Atlantis, and tell the IOA bureaucrats to take a hike and there's really nothing they could do about it. I'm not advicating U.S. only participation in the Stargate program, but the IOA model doesn't work and something else would need to be negotiated, especially since none of the other countries have any significant leverage.

The point is that there is no logical reason the IOA should not be allowed to exist any longer. They seem to only be around as a point of contention at this point anyway. They should be done away with. Soon.
Theres one major flaw in your little plan. you think the rest of the world will let them keep the stargate for them self? i don't think so. the rest of the world will bomb the *&%$ out of the US and will loose. America cannot stand upto every nation

I don't think they'll have a choice. Only a few would be willing to stand up against the US.
He mentioned a new program to negoiate but they could include all those with a Stargate. That would exclude China and put the world under a similar regime as the system lords.
                    It could happen very easily.

And you think that Russia, France and China would just suit back and watch. All they have to do is reveal the existence of the Stargate to the world and then that gives something to unite all the countries against the US. The US might be the worlds most powerful nation but it couldn’t stand up to the rest of the world.

China in this argument has little influence. Russia is the only nation that needs to be in any talks with the US. One demostration from Russia or America will silence the PRC far more effectively then any nuclear weapon.

Frankly there is not much to the fight.
China and the rest of the nations shouldn't over step their bounds.
There role in the gate program is strictly permissible not a necessity.

You are as egotistical as the OP.

You're also extremely ignorant if you still subscribe to the Cold War rhetoric of Russia being the only nation 'worthy' of meeting the US on a level playing field.

Your country has problems putting down an insurgency that uses 1970’s technology. How are they going to fare against Britain, France and China, countries with well armed, well equipped militaries, considerable economic power and nuclear weapons? Sure the US might be able to defeat them after considerable effort, but not before suffering terrible losses, losses that the American people would be unwilling to take. The US cannot presume to decide that it should represent the world, the IOA are hardly the most perfect thing but they at least mean fair representation for the nations of earth. You replace them and you just get another problem, sure in the early years of the stargate program you didn’t have the IOA, instead you had rogue military elements and intelligence agencies trying to use the Stargate program for nefarious purposes.

                              Not my country.
But we are talking the technology of the ancients behind Russia and America aand as we know Britain lays down to just about everything America says. With Frances tendency to avoid armed conflict I don't yet see the "resistance" making much of a difference against asgard beams and naquada enhanced nukes. Economic sactions wouldn't work either when you have access to the resources of many worlds and Space Ships to get you to others.

Reallly...lets not get personal and while we're at it you should try reorienting you r comment to away from the real world to the one represented in Stargate or at least read the post more carefully. Sir, that's just a suggestion of course.

I bet that'd change if America just kicked all international personell out of the stargate program.

That is something that simply wouldn't go over well with anyone. Not even Americas closest allies.
