I had a choice between that, and Duel.
Perhaps I chose wrongly...

Well, I tried. Still, looks like we might have gotten a title out of it anyway. Also, we know it's not Duel.
I can see it now for Duel. Discovering that Dr. Rush is planning to take over the Destiny Eli must put his computer skill to outwit the Scotish mastermind. In the B-plot Wray must settle punishment for the fight ring that Greer and Scott organized. Is it right for her to pass judgement when she was in a lesbien wresting contest during her college years

From that FusedFilm article:
Brian mentioned that some of the show’s that maybe won’t influence SGU but that it will take the same trend and form of in terms of character driven arcs and style was Firefly, Friday Night Lights, The Shield, The Wire.

Ronald Greer is also a medic. Your argument is invalid.

I think that this is a really good quote from BW:
Wright also conceded that while Battlestar Galactica's grittier tone definitely informed Universe to an extent, Universe will retain at least a modicum of the irreverence that has made the 'Stargate' franchise fun and accessible to viewers.
"Galactica took itself so seriously," he said. "Our series tries to retain more of the fun that's become associated with this sort of genre."
