I understand, but this is what I was seeing when the episodes you mentioned were discussed:

Sam was wrong to go with Pete, to move on, etc etc. But it was necessary for her to experience a new relationship. It was needed for her to appreciate Jack. She was lonely, and needed her needs fulfilled. Etc etc.

But none of that was said about Jack with Laira. He was rude, inconsiderate, and hurtful to Sam with no consideration to what he was feeling those three months.

This is what I meant by the dual standard. Almost nobody ever spoke up and said how hurtful Sam was to Jack by springing it on him without talking to him before she moved on.

Because of this, I felt a need to not just defend Jack, but to point out the unfairness of some of those here. Don't forget, Jack has emotions and needs, too, just as much as Sam does.

you never heard that from me! i have absolutely NO doubt that sam could hav come to some decisions and epiphanies (jack as well) without having that stupid and cliche' *other* thrown into the mix. pete was THE BLOB that almost ate sam's character.

I like the way you put that. Will the series ever get over the damage that BLOB did to our beloved Sam and Jack? I hope so. I'm trying to stay positive, but it isn't easy.

Speaking for myself...3 months is what..12 weeks...one school term...I would NEVER be able to just give up and move on after that short time so..yes..I believe he moved on too quickly!!!
I don't think Laira was a b*tch..maybe a bit manipulative..I didn't hate Jack and I wasn't out to attack him either..sorry if seemed that way...and I would never claim that Sam was perfect or a goddess or a saint.
You're right about one thing...this is a show and it's what was written. I'm not taking it too heart or too seriously but in my experience in the real world...12 weeks or 3 months is really a short time...and I culdn't move on that quickly!!

I think it's a matter of perspective. Yeah, a school term may or may not seem that long, but look at his circumstances. The gate was gone, he'd spent what time he could outside of helping them rebuild digging for it fruitlessly. In that situation, I think the 3 months would have dragged a bit; each day a reminder that it was one more day that he was missing. As much as he says they don't leave a man behind, he's career military. He knows that there would come a point where the Air Force would decide to cut its losses and declare him MIA.

Humans are adaptable to a certain extent. Maybe it took him the full three months to adapt to living there. It was only after that 'incident' that he even agreed to toss his BDUs away. Maybe it wasn't a case of "Okay, no one's coming so I'll move on now." Maybe he was finally taking a step to move on instead of being stagnant.

Remember, as soon as he heard there was contact from the radio, he raced to where the gate was buried. He did want to get home, he was just guilty over what happened with Laira.

And none of the above is meant to excuse what he did to Sam. I'm staying out of that one.
