No one does pain as well as RDA does. Some grimace, some squint and some just look like they have indigestion, but when Jack or Mac hurts, you believe it. It's a credit to RDA's acting ability. He winces, he sweats, his eyes tear up and he even cries out loud - and it's all fake! There's no spear through his shoulder, there's no such thing as pain stick or zat...but when he hurts, we believe that our hero has sacrificed his well-being for others.
My theory is that RDA has had so many injuries in real life that he knows pain so well that he can transfer the feelings to his role. So this may be a 'sick' way of honoring THE MAN, but of course, where there's hurt, there's comfort....
My Whumped!Jack tribute to RDA the actor (someone else will have to do Mac).
Except maybe when Chris popped him in the nose during the boxing scene in Fifth Race. Poor baby!
The director's commentary for 48 Hours mentions that the Death Glider attack that knocks Jack on his kiester at the beginning really did knock RDA on his kiester and threw dirt and rocks in his eyes.
We are also a big coffee household. I've usually had a whole pot by 10 a.m.
<----has a TechNivorm Moccamaster
MMJC: She's usually taking the last cup of pot with her when she leaves for work... Then she's attached to a cup all day at work. Right now she's watching a pot brew for her evening pot. She once scared an entire doctor's office with her screams when he suggested she cut back. All I know is, I'm safer when she's heavily caffinated or drugged.
Awesome party! It's just like watching 27 years of Rick on screen! Well, actually, I am, what with all the MacGyver and Stargate pics, not to mention real goldies like Firehouse! Since I lack the folatus to create cool attachments, allow me to offer muchos kudos to all!
So, what everyone else said. And I loved Rick's "falls" in the show. He did them so well, I always had a hard time deciding where the stuntman came in or if. I.E., when Bratac socked him, and Teal'c socked him and...yeah, he was good at pratfalls.
And as mentioned more than once, Rick gave his best to even his lightest moments. Nothing makes a show so appealing as actors who know just how much to put into their roles, and give us nothing less.
And hot. Did someone mention RDA AND melted chocolate? 'Scuse me while I turn to steam...See you when I condense (or if, watching this thread!)
Just sayin': LOVE YA, RDA! THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!
May 20, 2004 thru Aug 6, 2004 we went thru 5 (FIVE) other incarnations of the RDA/Jack Thunk Thread. All at 1000 or more posts.
I guess Feli got tired of creating a new Thunk Thread every 6 weeks or so. If she had kept it up we would be posting in the RDA/Jack Thunk Thread XXXVIII (38).
Thanks Feli. ((((( Feli )))))
Being a nomad was tiring. Always having to drag stuff to a new Gutter and the Clones getting lost. *settles back in her comfy pool on her floaty* Much Bet-ter.
I agree, RDA 'does' pain appalling well. *winces in sympathy* Wonderful run of Whump.
Thanks, Rune and Jynjyr! Sorry for the combined response, but this is the fourth time I've tried to reply. Everything just freezes up on me now... I guess that GW's way of telling me that posting 27 pictures of whump was a little over the top....
