Why can't sci-fi be sci-fi? Who cares who's gay, pedo, into animal porn or who will end up in bed together. It's about space exploration, not a drama. Go watch the O.C. if you want to see relationships.
I'm a TrustNo1/Weir shipper Also TrustNo1/Carter shipper and TrustNo1/Teyla Shipper. In fact I'm a TrustNo1/Weir/Carter/Teyla shipper. Yes, that would be good Throw in some Vala in tight leather. Is this sig PG? Oh well

Thank you L-JADE for the sig, it ROCKS!!!

Waiting for my posts to be approved.

I stopped watching SG-1 couple of eps into season nine because I couldn't stand Vala, so I'm not that familiar with Cam. But I'm sure I could see it if I watched.

Seriously though... do you guys think that there's any chance that any of this will ever make it in to a script? I mean no-one suggesting that Stargate should suddenly become a big gay show, but would it kill them to admit that homosexuality exists? (I sound like one of those irritating freedom fighters now, sorry... I'm really not!)
If the X-Men comics can do it (in Ultimate X-Men - which is the one where they are all teenagers again - Colossus is dating Northstar and used to have a crush on Wolverine. Northstar has always been gay in the comics, as well!) I damn well think that it's about time Stargate at least acknowledged it officially. People are people and I think TPTB should at least acknowledge that in some way.

Maybe they think they are already - but to do it formally, even with a role as small as Stackhouse or Console Guy, would be something.

Well, he's my favourite character, so I like to spread the word!

I was just capping some scenes from that ep and he is definitely jealous, of course he is jealous of John having Chaya but he could quite reasonably be jealous of Chaya having John.
Oh, I always thought he was jealous of Chaya. I mean - it was practically the point of the episode! Here they have a chance to chat away to this ancient, and the ep focused more on Rodney being a *****.

I've known non-slashers to say they thought Rodney was bi. And that's before Duet, as well!

**Throws two cents in the jar**

I always thought Janet could have been. In Hathor when she and Sam go on about her sexist and repressive husband - it would not have surprised me if she decided to play for the other team for a while.

Sam- I always thought they gave her that "person you think is gay but isn't" vibe with her characteristics.

Rodney - I would go with Bi.

Peter Grodin - Love the man but **young folks look away**camp as boy scout jamboree on s'more night!

Well, they even talked about that in the first meeting when she showed up, didn't they? All that 'man's job, man's hair, man's name' stuff.

Rodney - I would go with Bi.
Even if only because he's such a lonely person he'll take affection where he can get it.

Gayer than showtunes. He was always Weir's gay best friend, to me. But whether that's meant to be implied in canon - or just the way Craig played him - I couldn't say.

I always thought Sam and Janet had a vibe too. I loved scenes with them together!

You wouldn't take that attitude if we were talking about the under-representation of a particular gender or race. Sexuality is just as much an issue in modern society, and in order to be relevant to the real world (even if it's set in space, it still features characters from the here and now) it should acknowledge all accepted facets of the society it draws from.

Placing gay people in the same category of those our liberal society deems criminals is frankly sickening.

All quality fiction is first and foremost about the characters and their inner and outer conflicts. Whatever the genre, whatever else you throw into a story or script -- if the characters don't invest us emotionally, the story idea, however interesting, will not be memorable. In other words, a story without fully-realized living breathing beings we can relate to isn't worth
                  ****.

ok didn't PDL say in a dvd commentary that Walter was gay? maybe my memory is playing tricks on me but i thought it was a genuine fact about his character and not just a jokey comment.

anyone else remember this? as for atlantis i think i might prefer it if weir was gay, then we wouldn't have had to put up with narim again. i'm sorry but that guy just reminds me of frank from mash and it freaks me out!

I hate to point the sad truth out, but shipping (both straight/femmslash/male slash) actually saved SciFi. It's a lot less blatant in Stargate SG-1. I mean look at Battlestar Galactica. Okay, so now instead of just having sex with numero seis in Baltar's dreams, he now gets to frak Gina.

So every show should point out to everyone that that person is gay or bi or black or hispanic or alien? Should there be a guy-guy kiss in every episode of every show to point out that they are representing every lifestyle on the planet? Why? It doesn't progress the story, the characters can be whatever sexuality they want yet they will still have the same role, the same goals, the same outcome. Their sexuality has no bearing on the story so we don't need to know what they like to do in their spare time. If I want to watch two guys or two girls kiss I would look on the internet for that, not a prime time television show where young children and their families want to watch space battles and good beating evil. Leave politics out of my TV shows. If you want to experience the gay culture, go to a gay bar, go to google and type in gay sex, your urges will be fulfilled.

I don't tune into Stargate every week watching for that gay kiss to happen. I don't tune in to watch some drama about someone in the closet wondering if the next alien world will be filled with naked men.

Do you guys think that either Stargate will ever have a gay character in an episode? And if they do, what would you like to see?

I think that the Stargates are a bit too conservative to show gay characters. BSG is more of my testing grounds because they're a bit more gutsy - if they have a gay character then maybe we could see one on Stargate. If BSG doesn't bite, then there's no way Stargate would either.

If they do have a gay character on Stargate I wouldn't want to see them making a big deal of it, as in "OMG, look, a GAY CHARACTER!!!" I prefer something very subtle, like two men holding hands or an alien woman introducing another woman as her mate. A blink and you missed it moment.

I think you're right about the Gates being too conservative, but TPTB, prove us wrong!
If they can't see their way to giving us a gay character, a suggested relationship would be ok with me. It is the 21st century after all!
