I have to agree with amaradangeli; Sam didn't love Jack more than he loved her.

The reason for his behavior - which is quite obvious in my opinion - is that she didn't believe him at the time and, like all his friends, ignored him and/or turned her back on him when all he did was caution others to not blindly accept a treaty with the Aschen. That, coming from the woman you love and who claims/claimed to love you (or whatever she said during the zatarc test), has got to hurt like hell.

And we already know (Children of the Gods,A Matter of Time) how unforgiving Jack is...

Yeah, I can imagine the whole 2010 course of events would have been really tough for him to swallow. Not only did she completely disregard his opinion on the situation (something she was disinclined to do historically speaking), she married the guy that was on the opposition side (from his perspective). Then, he retires and goes to live on his own without the contact that had kept him connected for the previous stretch of years.

Plus, I'm not sure it's fair to take the 2010 episode and say something like Sam always loved him more. Firstly, she's the one that moved on in that timeline. Secondly, with the traveling back into the past during that timeline, it was averted.

I would say that Sam was far more demonstrative of her love for Jack than he was towards her - I think part of what happened in Grace and with Pete was that she had no indications from Jack that he felt the same about her. I think post-Entity Jack realized that he was too close and he backed off - to the point that she didn't know anymore if he felt the same way that he always had.

I think he always loved her. He loved her enough to let her go.

And you know the old saying, "If you love something/someone enough you'll let them go. If they come back, then it was meant to be." I probably bastardized that but I think my point was made.

I agree, after Entity Jack realized that as the military officer he should've been willing to shoot without hesitating but he cared about her so much that he did hesitate and then hated himself for having to pull the trigger. I think they both loved each other deeply. It began with respect for each other and their abilities, then to companionship the whole team shared, and then it became something so much more.

I think the problem was that they both were afraid of their feelings and about admitting how they really felt about each other. Not only did they know that those feelings could get in the way of their job, but I think they were also personally afraid. Jack's been in love, got married, and had/lost Charlie. And Sam's also been through a lot. She lost her mother at a young age and even though her father was alive he wasn't really there for her as a child.

They were afraid to take that next step because when they were team members and co workers they always had the "regs" to hide behind and the excuse that neither of them could retire because they had to protect the world from the Gould. I love the look on Jack's face when Carrie breaks up with him and asks him why he hasn't retired and come back as a civilian leader, then the look on his face when he realizes that he's done running from his feelings

I remember watching Threads for the first time and as Jacob says "I love you" to Sam, we get that great shot of Jack's face that you posted and I said to myself (through many, many tears) "yes he does". It's not a revelation like in season 4, it's a simple fact that is plain to see. He's finally come to terms with it and there's no pretense just the fact that he's there for her. Always.

Thanks.. I couldn't find the right pic, there is a moment just after the one I posted when he looks down right after Carrie walks out of the room and it just says so much... RDA and AT are really amazing actors!!! I agree with you, in season 4 they acknowledge that they love each other but they're not ready to anything about them. They both aren't at the right place mentally and there's so much going on with the universe that they really don't have time for romance (No matter how much we want them to admit their feelings, get married, and have lots of shippy babies... or maybe that's just me *blushes*). In Threads we can see that no matter what happens, who they're with, and/or how much time pasts they will ALWAYS love each other and be there the other. It's such a sweet and pure love that they have for one another....... why oh why couldn't they give us a confirmation

I agree that Threads has some poignant moments but the scene in Jack's office when Kerry dumps him was kind of ruined for me by her claiming he could just retire and come back as a civilian, since the regs would then still apply with him in command of the base!

And yeah, RDA and AT did an amazing job with Jack and Sam. Especially when you hear stories like the one from the other day, when someone here was babysitting someone else's three(?)-year-old kid and the kid thought Sam and Jack were in love when seeing them on TV because his mom and dad looked at each other the same way...
