Why is it that earth only sent one naquadah generator along with the marines through the stargate when they dialed in using the ZPM?

        Best Stargate quote:
Sheppard: (yells to McKay) Canadian football is a joke! Celine Dion is overrated! Zelenka is smarter than you are!
        Green is your friend.

I think it was because Atlantis already had plenty of naquadah generators. That one they brought through the gate was a special one that had been modified to generate a lot of extra power for a short time to power up the chair, and I should think they had only had time to modify one of them.
Please... leave the touching to the experts.

I thought the episode was going to be somebody's dream.
No way SG Command would not send a probe first to check on
the statis of Atlantis before just walking thru!
            Reasons:
#1--When the SG-Command came thru the Gate, They
Just walked right on in and said we are taking over command.
I said to myself Stargate Command would have sent a probe first
just to make sure someone was there. Then they would have
confirmed the orders of the new colonel from GENERAL JACK O'NEAL
            himself, NOT A HANDWRITTEN NOTE.
#2--The camera shots kept zooming in and out of the
buildings as if someone was going from building to building observing
what was happening. I first thought an Ancient was following their
            Movements.
#3--The way the new command had new
weapons and was just so arrogant with taking over, I just
knew they had to be phonies,.

Any way, did anyone else get that feeling?

I JUST SAY STARGATE COMMAND WOULD HAVE
SENT A PROBE, MADE RADIO CONFIRMATION NOT USE
A HANDWRITTEN NOTE, AND WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE
            AT EASE IN TAKING COMMAND.

I just can not see STARGATE COMMAND walking thru and taking over
with sending a PROBE or making conformation by RADIO, not a hand-
written note. So I just assumed, that the episode was going to some-
body's dream and not for real, or maybe an Ancient was was behind
it, the way the camera shots kept going from building to building as
seeing what everyone was up too.

Then the way Col. Everette was so arrogant in just taking the
              command over.

Heh, I'm watching Siege, Part II right now on DVD.
                Me likes episode because...
                1. Vis effects are awesome.
                2. Shweir moment.
                3. The cliff hanger at the end is especially good.
                Yup.

Just asking if you might agree that Stargate Command
would have sent a probe or sent a radio message before
Col. Everette just came barging thru saying He's taking
                    command.
I loved the special effects too, but I also thought
maybe an Anceinate or someone was watching them due
to the way the camera shots were flying in and out of the
                    buildings.
I just thought that the way NO probe was sent ( and that
is the way Stargate Command Operates..Sent a probe to check
the other side) and the way the shots went from back and fro
to the buildings, It was going to end up someone's dream or
a higher being there to intervene. Very disappointed at that.
                    What are your thoughts..?

Well, although I'm not an expert in the workings of the gate system, they sent their IDC through to get the shield opened, so that proved that somebody was there, and I suppose that left two possibilities - either it was the Atlantis team, or it was the Wraith. And if it was the Wraith, and the SGC sent through a probe or radio signal, it would give the Wraith warning of who was coming, and give them the chance to defend themselves, or most likely not raise the shield the second time (well, all right, I suppose they don't have to raise the shield to get a radio signal through, but you know what I mean, don't you? It could give the Wraith time to prepare.) I know it might seem unlikely that the Wraith would raise the shield in the first place if it was them, but they might for a number of reasons.

When Everett comes through the gate with 3 marines, they are holding weapons ready to fire, so if the Wraith had already arrived they would have been ready to attack them straight away, with the element of surprise.

Don't forget, every second was vital, first, in getting Everett's people to Atlantis, and secondly, in getting the ZPM there on the Daedalus.

As for what the SGC would have done if there was nobody in Atlantis, surely they would still have sent Everett and his people to defend it anyway, so they didn't really need to find out whether anybody was there? If the city had been destroyed then the gate wouldn't have worked. Or perhaps they would have sent a probe through if the shield hadn't needed raising?

HEY Catsitter, The Wraith would not have raised the sheild after
lowering them. They would have let Col. Everett step right on
in and then WHAM, hit everyone stepping in with a stun gun.
capturing everyone as they stepped thru.
There was no urgent need to dial the gate, send the IDC,
and barge thru the gate like gang busters.

Stargate Command ran by Gen. O'Neall, always sends a PROBE
if there is a possibility of danger. The sheilds were lowered, but
there was no radio contact or probe---just the marines, guns
ready, and not knowing what they were walking into. NO!!!!!
Stargate Command would have sent a probe........
                        1. A probe would have confirmed Atlantis Command
                        was there.
                        2. If the Wraith was there, the probe would have
let Command know something wasn't right.
                        3. Tipping the Wraith off? Who cares, when the Gate
activated, it would have tipped off anyone on
                        the other side.
                        4. Walking thru the Gate without confirmation was
really suicide with out knowing what to expect,
when you have the capabilities to do so.
                        5. General O'Neall (to me) would have been on the
radio confirming they were coming and why,
                        NOT SENDING A HANDWRITTEN NOTE!!>

If I had been Weir or Sheppard, I would have been on
the radio to talk to Command right after in was
said "It's Stargate Command"s IDC". I would have
at that moment Lowered the sheilds but got right
on the horn and started talking to Command.
They just ran to the gate watched the Marines walk
in and hand them a note!!!!. GET REAL>

One of the best episodes ever. I enjoyed the two-parter very much. I think it clearly showed that the series is very promising. The interaction between the characters was nicely done. The cliffhanger made me want to eager to watch the 1st episode of the second season to see if they can top that.

                            Hey, MikeRasshaert,
I enjoyed the episode also, I like the way
the writers make each episode a continuous story.
It seems ever since Rising, each episode is following
their (The Atlantis Command) everyday actions.

I put most of them on my vcr since I am not
at home when they air.I do not have cable so I can't
get the Sci-Fi Channel and just finished this 1st season.

Since Rising, I record the whole episode, then
re-record, and edit out the ads. So, when I put in a
tape, it like I watch a movie, From Rising to The Eye.
Then on the next Tape from The Hot Zone to the Seige.

It was nice because my sister came to visit and
never saw Stargate Atlantis and she enjoyed watching
from start to finish with popcorn all the way.

                              Hi George
During the first season I got the feeling I was watching a book unfolding like when watching 24 or the first 4 seasons of Angel. From the episodes I saw on the net of season two and three, this seem to be missing. Well I will have to wait until season 2 comes out on dvd to see if it is still there.

                                Mike,

                                You are so RIGHT.
the only episode that did not fit in (to me) was
                                the Kids Planet Episode.
When I record the episodes back to back
with out the commercials and even without the intros of
the programs, it is a continuous movie
I am quite sure when the second season starts
with Seige 3 the same format will continue. At least that
has been their way of writing the on going story of the
                                Atlantis Team.
                                George Jr.
