Here's another rec. Just finished reading it. A post-WWII AU.
It was a NaNoWriMo so it's long but totally worth it.
Weir establishes a post-war peaceful community, Atlantis, that attracts the outsiders and disenfranchised. All the usual suspects show up in one form or another, including our lovebirds.
There is also a haunting ghost story mixed in with sci-fi and it all meshes beautifully.

Hi all...long-time McShep fan here!

I'm posting cos I'm wondering if you guys can help me find a story or one similar to.

It was a story where John starts an affair with a man and accidentally gets outed, thus ending the relationship. For a while John deals with being out to his friends before Rodney admits he's bi.

That's about all I can remember of it!

Also, are there any stories that you know of that have McShep coming out just to each other and no-one else, but remaining friends for a long time before anything happens.
