Speaking of fic, I've been reading alot lately and I've noticed a trend for Rodney to be jealous of Elizabeth and Shep's friendship. Sometimes displeased when he see's them talking or when they are eating together. Would he really act this way though? Since Rodney and Shep have become friends, would he really be unhappy that his two friends were friends as well? Just curious as to what everyone thinks.

Sometimes displeased when he see's them talking or when they are eating together. Would he really act this way though? I've read similar fic and it's usually used as a device to spur rodney into action or discover his feelings for Elizabeth. On the show I don't see him being jealous over them simply being friends, but if he started to notice flirting or the beginning of a relationship I think it's probable that he might become upset. He values his friendship with Shep greatly right now and I don't think he would jeopardize it over friendly Shep/Liz interactions. Possibly down the road if Rodney becomes more aware of his feelings towards Elizabeth....

Thank you Toaster! ACtually, the season ended for us here in Canada in January! So yah ... *serious* withdrawal here.

I forget, does Canada get the new season July 15 like the US or are they delayed like Britain?

I began thinking about the lack of a site just recently because I run the geek!love site (the little linky is in my siggy) over at Abydos Gate. It's the David Hewlett/McKay subsite there. Anyway, we just opened a Sheppard/Weir 'shipper subsite and I started thinking ... are there any McKay/Weir sites? Would there even be any interest? Other than me of course. lol

Oh, you run a website?! *worship* Seriously, I think it's so cool that people have the skills to code a site and keep it updated for all the fans out there. And you get double the worship points for having a DH site! Wallpaper, interviews, how great!

Once that M/W site gets up and running we'll definitely have to link up.

Also, here's a random question: I've read some fics where Rodney calls Weir "Elizabeth," "Lizbeth," and "Liz" and I was wondering what everyone's takes are on her nicknames in fanfic? I can't seem to recall her being called anything but Elizabeth on the show, but am I forgetting something?

I could be up to the challenge after my work on the site is done... and if I had the song. Are you thinking all S1 or not?

On the nicknames. I could imagine her playfully being called Liz or Lizzie but not in public, unless there's a very light (or drunk?) mood. Generally she seems to be Elizabeth or Weir/Dr. Weir to people in the city and Rodney. Though I do like the cute rushed 'lizabeth thing, but that's pronounciation rather than nicknamey.

On another topic, I just realized that I haven't gotten my Perfect 10 from Purpleyin yet, which means it's time to do more vidding

I think the spiderman soundtracks are great for Atlantis videos. Especially S2 soundtrack. Vindicated is sooooooo McKay. And Hold On was used for a SG1 vid. a long time ago, but could work for Atlantis. And Gifts and Curses definetly fits with McKay/Weir Ship. Of course, if anyone is interested, there's a song called "Twilight" by Dexter Freebish that was done for SG1 as well but would make a great Atlantis/Puddlejumper General Video.

I realised I don't have the soundtrack, really wishing I could hear all these good songs. I already used Ordinary by Train for a Ford vid and have of course heard all the songs in the films but sadly not got the soundtrack - sounds like I'm missing out of something great.

So what do I think he was going to say in The Eye? I have a number of theories. That scene did not strike me as particularly shippy in my first viewing, but I managed to miss the beginning of the episode (i.e. THAT scene) the first time through. His emotions were running pretty high at the time, so I don't think something shippy would have been out of order. Anyway, whether there would have been any shippiness in it or not, I think he would either have apologized for his failure and/or offered options of what alternatives were possible. One of my most elaborate thoughts on the matter is that

he would have offered to escort their captors in a Jumper to the Genii homeworld on the condition she get to gate to Manera.

That is, I think he'd have offered to sacrifice himself to save her and the others. Goodness knows, he's done it before and since.

Used to think it would be shippy but more recently think it'd not be overtly shippy, just hinting at or possibly inferring shippiness. I don't think he'd have given the death speach but instead apology or a way out. As for your idea Fanwoman - argh, no more bunnies! But I'd love to write it. An AU where he did that and then somehow they meet later. It'd have to be darkfic for me.

I guess I don't think they have yet, or if so only him and only recently (post LFP) and probably thoroughly in denial. I think there are feelings there, ones deeper than perhaps they should feel in their situation but I don't think they are in love exactly - not on show. Might make me a bad shipper saying that but...

In fic though, it depends what story you're talking about. Fics where you get to play about with that - after all they could be and we might not know, since it's to do with what in their heads, what can only really be expressed in fic. On the show we have actions and dialogue, but only what they'll admit or what escapes through the shields. I think in fic it's open to interpretation more freely, especially since fic is more or less always going to be AU from the show.

Oooh, never noticed that. Is odd he'd be so nice, I see a new ship... or atleast a new dimension to his angst over the episode.

The subconscious attraction is certainly possible. Perhaps he's attracted to Elizabeth but knows he can't have a relationship with her because of the Simon/boss/self-doubt issues, so subconsciously he's seeking out women that look like her? He could be consciously doing it too, but that seems something more suited for a darkfic than anything near canon.

*drools* I'm so in a darkfic mood (got a whole AU planned last night, M/W hints and so much badness for them all) and I'd love this one. To have him looking for some one to use, to replace Elizabeth (is she dead, out of his league, with Shep? With Simon? With Kolya?!) would be chilling. It'd be such a twisted version of Rodney to get to that but maybe that'd be the point; if he got to a place where he couldn't have her but needed her almost and hence was so thoroughly screwed up by her abscence. Very creepy but nice. So many darkfic bunnies around... I'm thinking I should run a darkficathon for SGa sometime after July 15th.

Also ... does anyone know of any McKay/Weir fansites? I can only find a few personal fic archives, and very few of those. Most of them also contain other stuff too. I'm wondering if there's *any* sites dedicated to just this 'ship with wallpapers and icons and fic and stuff of that nature ... with more than just an index page and a "coming soon" sign. *sigh*

I'm in the process of making one but sadly we haven't even got the coming soon sign up. Holding off buying hosting etc until a design is finalised and there's something to put up for definite. But hopefully soon we'll have a main website and also a separate fic archive. The working deadline in July 15th, might get coming soon page by July at least. It will be dedicated to the ship primarily but hopefully to have some character stuff too (not too much though because didn't want to infringe on the other chracter fansites) but mostly just for helping people appreciate what the characters are like so they can understand the ship better, if that makes sense.

I was going to give an update on the sites progress very soon but first the caption contest is getting sorted hopefully - got a slight problem which needs fixing first; hoping it'll get worked out tonight and the polls will be up today/tomorow.

More siege 2 AUish stuff (no season 2 spoilers)

Let's assume somehow that Shep's PJ mission is a success (nukes the ship and dies in the mission). He did say that if it worked someone would have to do it again. Both Beckett and Rodney know how to pilot the PJs; with Rodney perhaps being the better choice since Beckett is a tad...nervous with this stuff. What about a scene where Rodney says goodbye to Elizabeth in the control room before leaving himself? Elizabeth just lost Shep, and now it looks like she's going to lose Rodney too? Angst galore!

Okay Toaster! I finished up that Fic. It evolved a bit, but I think it turned out ok. Have a look everybody. It's the last moments of Siege part 2 from Rodney's point of view, and then what happens after the show ends. Definetly McWeir material. The Price of Cowardice

Okay, here's a question to get discussion started again: When do you think McKay and Weir first fell for each other? I'm not talking about the little crush/attraction between them, because I think that's always been there, since Rising. I mean when do you think they really fell hard in love with the other?

Well, I'm going to take this question and split it into two universes because I'm crazy like that.

First, the actual, canon universe. Like the other shippers, I'm not really convinced that they have fallen for each other yet. I think there may be some undercurrents of something as early as Antarctica and we see more of that in H&S, Home, Storm, and Eye, but I don't think either of them has truly had the anvil of love conk them on the head yet. Plus, as with any good angsty ship, there's lots of conflicts holding them back. Of course, conflicts rarely stop someone from falling in love with another, they just keep the feelings hidden. So I'm thinking no actual conscious love yet, but lots of potential for it to be developed next season and beyond.

Second, the fun AU where they went to Atlantis and the same events happened but there's nothing to stop them from getting together (maybe no Simon, she's not his boss, he's more sure of himself, etc). In that case, I think that the events of Storm/Eye would cause them to realize how close they came to losing the other and how much they meant to each other, and things would progress from there.



One hard part of shipping, especially since we've had only hints of M/W at best so far, is mixing the fun, sqeee, overanalysis part with the rational, canon, analysis part. Too much sqeeing and we don't analyze and critique the characters and their interactions as they pertain to the canon SGA universe. Too much rationality and we miss the fun overanalysis of looks and comments that can bolster creativity and develop fanfic.

For example, let's take Rodney's interrupted speech in Eye. The shipper side in me (and probably you guys as well) wants Rodney's speech to end with some declaration, maybe that he realized how much he cared for her, maybe that he loved her, maybe even a kiss. However, the rational side, as expressed by Fanwoman and aaobuttons earlier, saw Rodney's interrupted speech in Eye as leaning toward a plan for escape or at the most telling her how much he enjoyed working with her/getting to know her rather than a declaration of love. The first two options are much more rational and probable, while the second is certainly fun from a shippy point of view (and creates wonderful fanfic!) but less likely as canon.

Do those fic hint at S/W? Because I've noticed that Rodney tends to take a secondary role in lots of those, including ones where he's being especially irritating, overly jealous, or the brunt of a S/W joke or something. Oddly enough, Shep has a minimal appearance in M/W fics. I wonder why.

I actually could see Rodney being a bit jealous of Shep and Elizabeth spending time together. Rodney doesn't appear to be the type to make lots of geniune friends and I could see him being overly possessive of them. He may be a tad worried about any S/W interactions, even if they're just friendly, perhaps thinking that he may lose one or both as friends because they're spending so much time with each other. Once he got a bit of reassurement that everything was fine and that he wasn't being kept out of the loop then I imagine he'd be perfectly okay with it.

However, there may be a bigger problem if Shep and Elizabeth start flirting/dating and Rodney has some feelings for her. I could see him thinking that Shep betrayed him somehow or that Elizabeth snubbed him, even if he never made his feelings known to them. He could take it out on himself or on them, probably by becoming more isolated and liberally distributing mean little comments. Take his behavior on Sanctuary, for example.

Hmm, those fics where Rodney's overly irritating, OTT jealous or the butt of the S/W joke kind of irk me. I used to accidentally stumble on them, for some reason some people didn't use to (and some still don't seem to) declare ship in summaries and I occasionally end up reading a nice fic until it gets to suddenly S/W...

Anyway, I think Shep's role in most M/W fics from what I can remember seems to be either the betraying friend (whether he knows of Rodney's feelings or not), competition (if she's yet to choose or noone has shown anything more than possible flirting) or a matchmaker. I'd never thought about it before but it is sort of odd that it's rare to see Sheppard in there simply as a friend of them both, without being 'in the way' or trying to set them up with crazy schemes.

Hehe. But really, since starting to make vids my standards for rating them are alot higher, makes it all the more difficult to get even a 9 let alone 10. Of course don't let that stop you trying, I just hope I can keep up with the fics I've promised. The order today is going caption polls, site update, betareading (5 pieces) and then anything of my own to do, so have to see if I get down to anything. I'm quite keen to write the Brotherhood one but need to rewatch the episode really.
