    I say his cat.
But seriously I don't think McKay can see himself "close" to anyone. If one were to ask him off hand he'd believe that someone would be close to him if they could match his smarts and not even consider if that person is understanding or supportive. But thats just my half baked analysis.

"Who am I closest to? What is this, grade school?"

McKay would sneer at the idea of being "close" to anyone. He'd say that he has tons of friends and is loved and respected by the discerning members of the expedition and has gained the trust and respect of those in authority.

Radek? He's OK. Nowhere NEAR the intellectual level of McKay, of course, but at least the little guy tries. Usually. He's hardly a friend, though, he's more of a glorified subordinate. "I wouldn't exactly trust him with my life. Well... unless of course I HAD to, and even then, I could do a better job than HE could."

Carson? This is a joke, right? He's a doctor! Come on! "I'm still expecting to find leeches in one of the cabinets." Again, Carson's not so bad, considering that he's one of those mystical hoodoo witch doctors, always trying to jab you with needles or something. But a friend? Not really.

Sheppard? He's a good man, definitely the kind of guy you want around in a fight. But he's too busy being cool and aloof to pay attention to more important things. Like Rodney. "He probably cheated on the MENSA test." But even if he didn't, he's more interested in his hair than in intellectual pursuits.

Weir... She's like the Ice Queen, nothing ever seems to touch her... but that's in a good way. She really seems to care about people and she's up to listening to everyone... most of the time. But she's not a scientist, so there are some things she'll simply never understand. She's a good person to have in charge, but she isn't exactly the kind of person you can invite over to "hang out".

NOTE: The above in NO WAY reflects my own feelings/opinions about the characters, I'm trying to get an idea of McKay's perspective.

If you backed him into a corner and threatened to kill him if he didn't name a friend, I think he'd pick Sheppard. He respects Shep even while resenting his utter coolness. I think Shep is, in a lot of ways, what McKay always wanted to be (minus the military part), although he'd probably deny it vehemently and cast aspersions on Sheppard and his "ilk".

That being said, I think he has a lot in common with Radek, at least on an intellectual level. Again, though, he probably wouldn't admit to it. Although if Radek's life were ever in danger, I think Rodney would fight harder than the rest of the team combined in order to save him.

I've always felt that there is a comfortable and deeply shared understanding between McKay and Weir (not in a shippy way) that has carried over from their time in Antarctica together. My friend says obviously Shep, though I think she is drawing this conclusion from "Trinity" and the last few minutes of that episode, leaving him for last, etc.

Another plausible choice would be Carson Beckett. Or maybe Radek. Any thoughts?
I think he wants to be close to Sheppard but in reality he would say Beckett, if only because he gets to bully him. Well I never said it was a healthy choice. Weir no I don't see her as being close to anyone on Atlantis (the writer's fault IMO).

hehe, that's great. I wonder if Rodney could eat them out of house and Atlantis. Well the Power Bars must be getting low. Thanks.

I've read another name that hasn't been mentioned here yet, but I can't remember what it was.

                  Hey SGC,

I really love your Southpark Rodneys!

Where do you make them? How do you make them? I'd really love to be able to make some to be used as icons!

Girls, I'm working late today (still here and it's past 9.15pm in Sydney), so pls keep thunking. I am really enjoying all the piccies.

                  Take care

                  Alex.

Peter? That just confuses me, got Grodin on my mind when I hear it but I guess with so many people they might have more than one person with a name. Oh and that fic is so good. I'm not a major slash fan but that story was so well written and the details to Atlantis and the personnel were so touching, funny at times and also deeply sad other times. I had to vote for it. (Wonders when results come out for the awards...)

But back to our regularly scheduled thunking.

Well he is Jimmy to me now. Dr Jimmy Kavanaugh, so when you read a fic and he is referred to as Jimmy you will know it's me. Ooh Willow, Rodney & Jimmy. Purpleyin you have started something I don't think I can stop.

Perhaps the author intended that to resonate?

For that matter, try counting all the characters named Charlie in Stargate SG-1. Or surnamed Davis. It's only a handful, but it's striking.

                              Keeping it on topic here:

I was once in a theatre company that had sixteen Davids. Never mind all the Michaels, Christophers, Johns...

                              Off topic again:

I did two, both its categories. I don't like dark, but I've reread that one a couple of times.

I never check on the winners. I'm always horrified at what other people consider "good". I tried a couple of times to tackle the SG-1 nominations this year, but most of the ones I tried were just so awful. I ended up mainly voting in the drabbles.

He's an Atheist, he would never even think of using that! How is that even possible? All the passwords I have to give need at least 4 letters. I think it is Sam related.
