Just wanted to point out an interesting post, an essay entitled "Approaching Vulnerable: The Evolution of Dr. Rodney McKay". Haven't had time to read it all (I so need sleep) but thought linking to it here might be appreciated as it seems fairly indepth on his character.

Thanks for posting the link! It's really an interesting essay.

When my SGA fan obsession began I tried to make a list with descriptions, facts and interpretations of all the characters. It was amazing, after only a few episodes my RM article was by far the longest. You can find so much to think about in this character. After I while I gave up to write down everything that came to my mind because I could spend HOURS thinking about RM and would still not find the quintessence, and eventually I lost track because there was always new info with each new episode.

This essay was a good summary of Rodney's behaviour through season 1 and the things that influenced and changed him. I still think it's impossible to draw a final conclusion. Yes, he changed. But I couldn't really define this change or write it down in one sentence, it's too complex, and the change is also still in progress.
I think it all comes down to the contrast between emotions and professionalism, friends and work, together and alone. Responsibility, need, care, help - all these things are getting new meanings with the exploration of this special contrast and have to be adjusted, because this contrast hasn't been in RM's life before Atlantis. Life is different now, and Rodney changes because he adapts, maybe unknowingly, just because he has to: His everyday life he cannot escape is simply different now. Rodney never was a team player (as for why --> a myriad of possible explanations), and he will never be a perfect one. Never. But he already became a better one than he was at the beginning, and he's still improving.

Gate Trippin' once said this in another thread:

I think Atlantis has fulfilled in them places they didn't even realize were empty.

I agree, and I like to see these places being filled in Rodney.

The arms! Omg the arms! I had a thing about arms BEFORE I saw him. Now I'm hopelessly lost!

This man is pure 'kiss and cuddle' material. Eyes, hands, mouth and now arms again - strong arms...why do things like "can hug you" or "can carry you" pop up in my mind?

Hi everyone,

Wow, I see lots of nice pics since I last posted last night.

I love all the pics floating around, especially the arm porn ones!

Talking about the SG1 box set, in answer to you question Rose, there are actually 2 specials on it:
1) The lowdown from SG1 to SGA (this one was made just after season 7 and introduces SGA)
2) Behind the Stargate: secrets revealed (David hosts this).

There is actually one funny scene from it where David points at the map of the Atlantis control room and says it's actually a map of his Malibu home and then points to the centre and tells us that it's his bedroom, where lots of action happens!

But I bought it coz I really liked Season 8 of SG1 and didn't actually watch every episode on Channel 7.

I can't believe it's a coincidence: I open this thread and I open the TV right after. There's been SG1 reruns since Monday. And suddenly... "RODNEY, THAT'S RODNEY!!! (yep, I actually shouted that. Very loudly).
Turns out that the episode is "Redemption" part two.
And I'm so pleased because I haven't seen that ep in ages (probably only once). Of course I've reread the transcript after I've found out Rodney was in it and found some screencaps but it's just not the same than Rodney in live action. I wish I could remember exactly what I thought of him in that episod the first time (he's a bit less full of himself than in "48 hours"). I must have found him cute, at least in the "I wanted to be a pianist" scene. He's SO cute I can't imagine I didn't think that at least only once. CUTE, he's absolutely cute.

With that and the armporn pics, I'm surprised I'm still breathing
