OT - Well I can think of at least two others Blake 7 & Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

Now back to the thunking, and thanks for the explanation folks.

*is on the edge of her seat (well bean bag at the moment) awaiting season2*
Do you want to know? Very brief explanations.

        Beckett
        Spoiler:
is now a regular and gets to go on at least one offworld mission judging by the pics out and an interview with Paul McGillion - there's certainly good stuff happening for him and comedy moments as well.

        Katie Brown
        Spoiler:
is a new character that McKay is supposedly going to go on a date with but who knows what it'll turn out like considering previous s1 spoilers claimed Mckay and Heightmeyer had started a relationship...

        Cadman
        Spoiler:
is another new character, from the Daedalus I think or brought by the ship - military U.S. She's appearing in episode 4 "Duet" so far but I'm presuming you don't want any more spoiled than that.

And for anyone who's looking at the s2 pics - check this out, emergencyfan has done some hilarious captions for them Especially love the McKay ones.

OMG! Those are great! I have tears coming out of my eyes from trying to hold the laughter in. I shouldn't be looking at this stuff at work. But it's not a good day and I don't think it will be for awhile. My boss, unexpectedly, went into the hospital and it's our busiest time at work. Not to mention he has a really messy desk that is organized in only a way that he knows. All the big shots above him are in a panic while those of us who actually work on the stuff have to sit here and calm them down. But thank goodness for GateWorld breaks. You kids really make my day a whole lot better. And as for the captions, "Hung like a stethoscope." I'll never be able too look at my doctor the same way!
"You are a distraction who is permanently distracted."~ Ohhhhh...sparkly...

And thanks for the explanations... everything makes some sense.

watcher, you always amaze me with your quick posting of caps on demand. Do you have caps in folders to help you organize the huge amount you must have? I'm thinking "Handporn folder", "Ear folder", "Tongue folder" etc etc.

Well lucky me, the ER ep with DH ("Never say Never") was on this morning when I was getting ready for work. He was so sad, so hopeless, so dejected.
So...so far I've seen Darklight and ER. I need to watch more to get up to the status of multi-role DH thunker! Do they ever show Cube here in the US? At least BvP is going to be on this weekend...

The only other things I've seen our beloved David in are The Cube, Nothing, Without A Trace (ooooo kinda creepy!) and most prolly ER before I became a fan and a thunker and so can't remember. I think I'm gonna have to buy me some more David movies too. He's just so consistently watchable and brilliant...and expressive...and cute!!! Oooo I'm feelin the luv!!!!

                            Glad you're feeling slightly better!

I would suggest Get Down AKA Treed Murray next for DH movies. It's actually a really good movie, especially compared to Triangle or BvsP. I got it used on Amazon for under ten bucks, but if I would have known how much I liked it I would have paid full price. I haven't seen Without a Trace or ER so I am very jealous of you guys Ah, well, I'm about to break down and buy Traders soon...I can feel it. Darn you, Watcher!!!!!!!!

Indeed yes. I remembered that from "The Defiant One" just as I typed it, but I was pooped and ready for pajamas, book, bed, catz.

And of course he uses lip balm. He wants his lips kissably soft for when he makes his move on.........

Interesting question. There's a McKay monologue in a fanfic I read recently that is ruined by the inclusion of an expletive. It detracts from the impact. Porthos1013 seems to have a point: McKay wants to be listened to, so he's not going to pepper his speech with meaningless sub-literate noise.

Still, one circumstance I can think of where a curse actually says something would be if McKay was suddenly completely blocked from something vital that had to be done, say, a door suddenly closing or power being switched off. A curse could speak volumes if the always-active McKay suddenly has nothing to do and nothing to contribute and something very bad is probably about to happen. (Of course, if there was someone listening in that he could argue with, there would be no need or time for a curse.)

Something else, although it applies more easily to film and TV than writing: David Hewlett is so expressive his character doesn't *need* to curse a blue streak to say "I'm feeling something" or "I want you to do this thing right now". He can give us a complete rundown of how he feels about the situation and what it's probably going to mean without uttering a single censorable word.

As a writer, saying to yourself "I need the reader/viewer to realize this is really important, so my character had better say f***" is just shooting yourself in the foot. You're the writer--you should already have made the audience care enough or understand enough that they *know* it's terribly important to the character.

As far as McKay's stress venting is concerned, I've always interpreted it as just that: a sort of mental explosion of steam so he can dump the pressure of irrelevancies and maybe sort out something that might do some good.

The story of my life. I finally find a city like this, intact, deserted for ten thousand years, probably contains hundreds of patents that I can exploit--and I'm going to die. I can appreciate dramatic irony as much as the next person, but this is pushing it a bit. --Max Eilerson, Crusade "War Zone"
