I just hope that the Green Lantern movie goes to other worlds and meets other races. Keeping him on earth normal people will not work. Sure its great for Batman, but it messed up the Superman Returns movie (that and Lois having a kid). Green Lanterns all about fighting baddies in the stars.

Lay on the heavy CG effects please.

Green Lantern moves out of Oz. Does that mean a delay?

Aside from Batman, it doesn't seem like any film version of DC Comics heroes can catch a break: While Marvel's Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and other franchises zoom ahead, DC's various projects remain stalled or stillborn. The latest is Green Lantern, which is now having to rethink a decision to shoot in Australia because of costs.

Here's how The Hollywood Reporter said it:

The falling U.S. dollar has forced Warner Bros. Pictures to reassess the viability of shooting a number of projects in several countries, after confirming Friday that its pulling production of Green Lantern out of Australia.

The studio said that "the current global economic situation, including fluctuations in currency valuation and overall costs," forced the decision, in a statement issued through agency Screen NSW.

Director Martin Campbell Talks Green Lantern Special Effects

Director Martin Campbell said to Empire:

"It's daunting, Just the process, something like 1,300 visual effects shots, it's mind-blowing, quite honestly. A lot of the special effects shots work will concentrate on the Green Lantern's power ring. It's energized by a battery on the planet of Oa, which taps into the willpower of everyone in the universe. From that ring you can form constructs. So if you got into a fight, you could form a giant fist. Or a fighter plane."

Hal Jordan is confirmed to be played by Ryan Reynolds so far and no other casting news as yet.

            Ryan Reynolds Speaks!

Actor Ryan Reynolds, the man that fans everywhere are considering the current torch-bearer for the the future of comic book movies, finally opens up about starring as two iconic characters from competing comic book companies: DC Comics' Hal Jordan/Green Lantern and Marvel Comics' Wade Wilson/Deadpool!

Reynolds told MTV that 2009 has been one of "the most unbelievable" years of his life:

"Starting with setting some goals that I didn't think would be possible several years before, running a marathon, getting married -- the year has been incredible, all across the board. The fact that Green Lantern is something that's about to get going full-steam pretty soon, and then there is Deadpool on the horizon as well. If you asked me if this would be happening three years ago, I would have kick-f---ed you back to where you were from."

That would be sweet! But that would most likely lead to him playing in the Superman movies, which may be too much.

Blake Lively Cast as Carol Ferris in Green Lantern

Blake Lively will play Carol Ferris, the female lead opposite Green Lantern played by Ryan Reynolds. Ferris runs her an aerospace company that hires the cocky test pilot Hal Jordan, the alter ego of Green Lantern (Reynolds).

I would agree with this, unless they decide they are going to interconnect all the movies like Marvel are doing Sam Jackson/Nick Fury. If they do plan to connect the DC movies, I think it would have to be Brandon Routh. Personally I think it would be worth having Welling do it, because I think after playing the character for 9 seasons (and signed for a 10th?) has earned the guy the right to appear in the suit at least once on the big screen.

As for Lively being cast, not too sure what to think, I was actually hoping for Keri Russell.

                              Sarsgaard for 'Green Lantern' villain?

Peter Sarsgaard is in talks to join the cast of Green Lantern.

The 38-year-old is attached to play the villain in Warner Bros' DC Comics adaptation, directed by Martin Campbell, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Sarsgaard would portray Dr Hector Hammond, a pathologist and senator's son who obtains psychic powers after discovering a meteor.

Ryan Reynolds was previously cast as Hal Jordan, the test pilot who becomes superhero Green Lantern. Gossip Girl star Blake Lively is to play Jordan's love interest Carol Ferris.

Production on Green Lantern is to start in March in New Orleans.

Strong to play 'Green Lantern' villain?

Sherlock Holmes star Mark Strong is reportedly in talks to play villain Sinestro in Green Lantern.

Speaking to MTV, Green Lantern director Martin Campbell dismissed rumours that Jackie Earl Haley was in line to portray the role.

"In fact, we're in negotiations with Mark Strong to play Sinestro," Campbell said.

He added: "If you look up old pictures of Sinestro, he's (Strong) very like him. The Jackie Earle Haley thing, somebody told me about it this morning; I had never heard it before in my life."

The helmer also offered a list of DC Comics characters that will appear in the superhero film, including Kilowag, Tomar-Re and Abin Sur.

Peter Sarsgaard is attached to star as villain Dr Hector Hammond.
