IMO, not even JB is enough to get me to watch Desperate Housewives.

Good old Rusty wins SFX Magazine's award for Best TV Episode Day 5 and stirs the drama pot...

"No wonder you haven't heard of it, it's a specialist magazine. For special people. Yes, with special needs."

...while Gareth David Lloyd wins Cult Hero award and Eve Myles takes Best Actress.

Interestingly enough, neither EM or RTD would have been my choice for winners in this case.

'Torchwood's' Capt. Jack will appear in at least one additional episode!
Barrowman Gets An Extended Walk On Wisteria Lane

According to reports, Barrowman may be spending additional time in the United States for an Americanized version of the "Doctor Who" spin-off, "Torchwood." However, if that is the case, Barrowman hasn't even been approached yet.

"If they do Torchwood again I would definitely want to be a part of it," he said of the series. "But I know nothing about it."
More and more it's looking like JB wont actually be a part of this hypothetical American TW. It seems to me that he's getting new roles and moving on (though I think he would always make time for TW if it happened). It's also looking more and more like Torchwood Cardiff is officially over. Like CoE or not, at least they went out with a bang.

        EDIT:

We don’t know and that’s the truth.

Eve Myles: I wish I could give you some juicy gossip, like we’re doing 55 episodes and it’s being filmed in the Antarctic, but I just don’t know.

Considering news on Torchwood is slow, give it a few days and expect that to be spread as an actual spoiler. I find it interesting that John doing an extra episode of Housewives gets tied to longer time for a US version of Torchwood. I think more could be going on that we know about if he's not been approached yet there are reports about him staying longer in the States for it.

John Barrowman 'to star in Glee' as he reveals more about Desperate Housewives role and views on new Doctor Who and Torchwood

Doctor Who and Torchwood star John Barrowman has revealed he's meeting with the producers of Glee in Los Angeles - and is hoping to land a part as a teacher.

The star, who flies out to the States on Thursday to start shooting his scenes on Desperate Housewives, said he was thrilled to even be asked along for a chat as he was such a huge fan of the show - or 'Gleek', as he called himelf.

He enthused: "I absolutely love the show. What would I play in it? I’m not sure what kind of character I’d like to play, maybe I could be a teacher, you know, another teacher who comes in and helps out. "That’s me just kind of brainstorming but the fact that they want to have a meeting with me is really quite nice in itself, it’s so exciting!"

The thought of JB in Glee fills me with squee! No joke.

I wonder what this new myster show might be... And nothing new on the TW front, not that I'm surprised.

Barrowman reacts to US 'Torchwood' plans

John Barrowman has said that he doesn't want his Torchwood character's sexuality to be reversed in the US version.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the American remake of Torchwood has plans to make his Captain Jack role straight.

"I hope wherever [the franchise] goes that the show stays the same," said the actor.

"The last thing I would want would be for Jack to become this heterosexual, straight hero. He's an omnisexual guy. He likes men, women, aliens, whatever. I think we should continue going down that route."

The star added that any effort to change Captain Jack's sexual orientation would need to involve a "big discussion" between creator Russell T Davies and his producing partner Julie Gardner.

As for additional information about the spinoff, Barrowman claimed that he only knows what has already been reported, including that Fox has commissioned Davies to write the pilot.

From tonight's Doctor Who launch: does the future of Torchwood now lie overseas?

Appreciating that we may be reading too much into this, just before the press screening of Doctor Who: The Eleventh Hour this evening, the director of BBC Cymru Wales, Menna Richards, stood up and made a small speech.

In it, she talked about the new drama centre that's being built in Cardiff to house the increasing output from the city. And she specifically cited the programmes that it would play home to: Doctor Who, Pobol y Cwm and The Sarah Jane Adventures.

Notice what's missing off that list? There's no sign of Torchwood, and it seemed mighty conspicuous by its absence.
A bit old (Published on the 18th), but everything still seems to be pointing to TW: America.

                      Torchwood snuffed at Fox

                      April 21, 2010

Torchwood fans, prepared to be disappointed/relieved.

Fox has decided not to pursue a U.S. version of the UK cult hit. The network was developing a States-side version of the Doctor Who spin-off, a prospect which divided fans.

“BBC Worldwide Productions and the FOX Broadcasting Company have mutually agreed not to progress together with a 13-episode serialized Torchwood format," said BBC Worldwide in a statement. "We are currently in discussion with several interested networks.”

As to that last part, BBC Worldwide executive vp of programming and production Jane Tranter reiterated that a U.S. version was still making progress.

"It's very much ongoing and very much alive," Tranter said.

Also, fans shouldn't hope for/worry about a U.S. edition Doctor Who, whose recent season première just set a ratings record on BBC America.

"It may well be confusing to have a British Doctor and an American Doctor at the same time," she said. "There is only one Doctor, so I don't see that happening."

Torchwood to return for fourth series in US co-production deal
Published Monday 7 June 2010 at 18:53 by Alistair Smith

Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood is to return for a fourth series, thanks to a co-production deal between BBC Cymru Wales, BBC Worldwide and US network Starz Entertainment.

The ten episode series will be written by a team led by Torchwood creator Russell T Davies and produced by BBC Worldwide Productions. Davies and BBC Worldwide Productions’ senior vice president for scripted programmes Julie Gardner return as executive producers with BBC Worldwide Productions executive vice president Jane Tranter.

The series has been commissioned by BBC One controller Jay Hunt, BBC Drama controller Ben Stephenson, and Starz president and chief executive Chris Albrecht.

While previous series were based on location in Cardiff, the new series will include locations in the US and around the world. John Barrowman and Eve Myles will return in their roles as Captain Jack and Gwen respectively, along with new characters.

Stephenson said: “We have a long history of working with many US networks but it is incredibly exciting to be working with Starz for the first time, as well as to be reunited with the best of British in Russell, Jane and Julie. Torchwood will burst back onto the screen with a shocking and moving story with global stakes and locations that will make it feel bigger and bolder than ever”

Torchwood interviews with Starz chief Chris Albrecht, creator Russell T. Davies

Starz president and CEO Chris Albrecht is creating a fanboy's dream of a development slate. In addition to ordering a prequel for "Spartacus," the network is readying a new version of "Camelot" and just picked up the rights to BBC's alien-fighting favorite "Torchwood." Below, Albrecht talks about how "Torchwood" will evolve for U.S. audiences and more. Below that, "Torchwood" creator Russell T. Davies weighs in.

THR: What attracted you to "Torchwood"?

Albrecht: It was too good an opportunity to pass up. Each season of the show, the show has evolved and "The Children of Earth" was terrific as evident in it was just named a Television Critics Press Awards nominee. I'm interested in doing sci-fi and what I like a lot about "Torchwood" is it's a very classic sci-fi entry. It's all about the story, it's not about big effects. I thought "Children of Earth" evolved the franchise to a place where it could continue to evolve on pay TV with an American partner that could bring more production resources.

THR: And by that you mean "Torchwood" will have a larger budget?

                            Albrecht: Yes, it certainly will.

THR: What changes are in store for fans?

Albrecht: Well at the end of "Children of Earth," Torchwood was destroyed, so when we pick up in our world the need for Torchwood arises again. A lot of this story takes place in the U.S. as well with several characters that are in the U.S. intelligence forces and end up teaming up with Gwen and Captain Jack to deal with the situation at hand.

THR: So it will take place in the UK and the US?

Albrecht: As well as other locations.

THR: With "Camelot" and "Spartacus" and now "Torchwood," Starz is carving out a niche as a genre-friendly network.

Albrecht: It's on purpose. I actually think it's a good opportunity for pay TV. It puts us as an entry in the pay category that makes us different and it's something that will continue.

THR: Can you talk about "Camelot"? How will this version feel different?

Albrecht: I don't believe we've ever seen a King Arthur story that takes it from virtually the very beginning of the story and tells it as a series. Arthur is 19 at the beginning. It's a fresh look at often thought of as history but is certainly mythology and a classic archetypical story and its very much about adventure and romance. And it's very much about the coming of age of young man who brings ideals to a position of king which had been handled differently before. That notion of leaders bringing a new vision has been visited frequently throughout history, including very recently in the U.S., and our story will emblematic of those stories.

THR: What's the latest on "Spartacus" star Andy Whitfield's treatment and the prequel?

Albrecht: We're very pleased at the news that's coming from Andy and his representatives and we are very optimistic about future of "Spartacus." The prequel is a great statement about our commitment to this show and the audience. People are going to be very pleased with the story that will evolve in the prequel and it will probably provide more enjoyment for when Andy returns.

THR: Will "Party Down" see a third season?

Albrecht: We're not ready to make a decision. We're finishing up the last episodes of "Party Down" and "Gravity." We're going to sit down and look at our schedule. Certainly the critical response to the show has been terrific and we're proud to have it on.

                            And here's Davies:

THR: What's the new "Torchwood" like?

Davies: It's very much the next step. It's not a new version, it's not a reboot. We're simply moving countries. The show was previously a format show -- monster of the week. The breakthrough was "Children of Earth" and that it became one long story. It's not going to be 'Lost' and take 20 years to find out what's going on. It's going to have a most remarkable conclusion after 10 episodes.

THR: This was set up at Fox, what happened there?

Davies: We had a brilliant relationship with them. Thanks to them we were allowed to develop it and take it to Starz -- some networks don't allow you to do that, you know. They were very gracious. They have their new Steven Spielberg series ("Terra Nova"). Starz was waiting for us with open arms.

THR: Being on Starz would also allow you to have more grown-up content.

Davies: We're simply going to tell a good story. I wrote the pilot 7 months ago irregardless of network. BBC1 is a prime-time channel, but a brave channel. I don't worry about content.

THR: In "Torchwood" people know aliens exist. I take it that will be true in the United States as well?

Davies: Yes, in the "Torchwood" universe, you're in a place where aliens long ago went public. It's like with terrorists. We all know terrorists exist, but if you found yourself in a room with one, you'd be in for a profound shock. You're never in a position where you take it for granted. I absolutely guarantee that you can leap in as a new viewer and be able to find everything.

'Torchwood' on Starz: Just as before, Capt. Jack will get you bi tonight

                              By: Jon Weisman
                              Published: Mon, June 07, 2010, 1:20 PM

"Capt. Jack's sexuality is certainly not going to change. Whether it's man, woman or alien, Capt. Jack is a gloriously sexually active being."

The occasion for that priceless quote from BBC Worldwide exec veep Jane Tranter is today's news that "Torchwood," popular in the U.K. and a rising cult hit in the U.S., will begin a new season of 10 episodes that will premiere Stateside on Starz in summer 2011, thanks to a new co-production deal between Starz, BBC Cymru Wales and BBC Worldwide.

"Torchwood" has aired for three seasons in the U.K., the most recent of which was broadcast by BBC America last summer as the miniseries "Torchwood: Children of Earth," to great critical notices and historic ratings for the cabler. Show creator Russell T. Davies ("Doctor Who") already has a premiere script and season bible for the coming campaign, which will take advantage of the new international co-production deal to produce the most global story yet for the series.

"Jane always had this global aim that I really loved, because that's the way drama's going now," Davies said. "Everything's downloaded, and your stuff goes around the world in seconds. When I worked on Doctor Who,' our highest viewing levels were in South Korea. ... It's nice that drama sort of reflects that."

Davies said the upcoming season of "Torchwood" involves a global crisis, "but always being handled with a lot of wit and a lot of truth and a lot of darkness."

Davies began envisioning the new season of "Torchwood" before the pursuit of a new deal began — "It felt mad not to continue it," he said — and was able to present a season premiere script and preliminary bible that sold Starz on the project.

The coming season will contain a story arc that comes to full completion at season's end. It will pick up after "Children of Earth" left off, but in a fashion that doesn't require new viewers to have knowledge of previous episodes, he said.

In addition to John Barrowman's Capt. Jack Harkness and Eve Myles' Gwen Cooper (pictured above), there will be two other series regulars and a host of recurring characters. Davies said he was never worried about having to compromise on Jack's sexuality or make any significant changes to cater more directly to an American audience.

"I'm sure if this was a network show that question would be stronger, but Starz gives you the freedom to use your own voice," Davies said.

"I invented the original 'Queer as Folk.' You don't get something like that worrying about the network. ... I think it's well-known ('Torchwood') was developed at Fox — they have 'Glee,' for goodness sake, as if anyone was going to worry about Capt. Jack. The representations of homosexuality on American television are much more strong and diverse than on British television."

Davies did add that, hypothetically "if someone had asked me to compromise in a way that caused me heartache, I would have walked away."

As evidenced by the tumult of "Children of Earth," "Torchwood" isn't exactly a show afraid of confrontation and change, and above all, that's what Davies hopes will continue forward.

"'Torchwood' became a banner title for stories that have a fantasy element that affects the human race," Davies said. "'Torchwood' takes the metaphor out: This is how we repsond to a crisis. (It tests) what human beings are capable of in a good way and a bad way."

Added Tranter: "'Torchwood' will have, as it has always had, a significantly impactful story that powers all the way through the season, that is clearly and reasonably accessible and understandable, and beneath that, in true Russell T. Davies fashion, will be a number of layers of complexity."
