Now that really doesn't surprise me. I suspected as much when they axed Farscape and a few other shows, now this just proves it.

After reading Robert Cooper's article that (pardon the showbiz lingo) the show might go on - I'm a bit more optimistic that SG-1 might return.

If they do end it, I don't want everything wrapped up in a neat little packet and everything explained. Defeat the Ori perhaps - but still let them go on exploring through the Gate.

SciFi wants to dump their "geek" demographic?

I'll be honest - my 8th grader has a tremendous interest in science, because of. . .Stargate. He has had it in his face (thanks to me) for 10 years and has grown up with Carter's technobabble. When his teachers say he and another kid spend their lunch periods talking black holes and alternate universes, and I see all those "A"s in Science, I know it is due to an intelligent TV show.

Watching so-called responsible programmers dump good shows that can influence the young, in favor of "extreme" shows is stupidity at its finest. More wrestling, and more "Who wants to be a superhero"?

      Makes me want to cry.

the network wants to move away from their "nerd" demographic. Seemed like an indelicate choice of words for a press release, which is what made it scream "BS" to me. That and the fact that I couldn't find any evidence of it on the NBC Universal Media Village site for the network. So someone looks like they've pulled a prank on Sci Fi and PRWeb. Of course, for all we know, it could be absolutely true. If The Nashville Network can morph into Spike TV, anything can happen.

I thouht the whole SurgeTV sounded like crap (but then again right now I could believe anything from Sci-Fi).

Yeah it appears a good ol' hoax has been delivered! Funnily enough to me it was believable, and i live in Australia!

The same happened to me when I started watching Stargate SG-1, I got better in science and started loveing reading science books from then on. I also participated at some science tournaments and found out what I want to become (an astrophysicist) because of it.

That they change their name could also be the explanation why they did no more advertising for both the Stargates. They want to change their viewers and so first SG-1 had to leave and then next year Atlantis is going to follow.

I really don't think its a hoax. Earlier this week (when the awful news came out), I read a LiveJournal entry that said SciFi UK was already showing soft porn late at night. I don't know how true that is, but it fit in with this rumor.

Yeah but the site has already been taken down... plus as someone else pointed out the use of the term "'nerd' demographic".

Since neither Variety, The Futon Critic, or SciFi.com made any mention of the press release, I think you can be pretty certain it isn't real.
And especially since Skiffy's slate press release from 2 months ago was heavy with sci-fi/fantasy shows.

Sci-Fi UK has been showing said soft porn for as long as I've had Sky, I think - The Dead Zone was pretty much the only show I watched on the channel, and I think they're not even showing repeats of that anymore.

It's likely still a hoax though, even if it's hardly a leap of the imagination.

Yup soft porn it is with them.

I don't take kindly to being called a nerd either. That's just another thing Skiffy has done to piss us 'gate fans off.

That explains the cancellation though. They want rid of some of the nerdy shows - and SG-1 is a long running show, so why not that first? Pricks.

If SG-1 was rebranded in US, why would it have to change in UK? Either way it would continue on Sky One? This would keep our record going longer - if we got another 100 episodes, we could effectively call it 300 because of us brits? And our DVDs would stay the same which would be nice lol.

It seems to be a pattern for SciFi Channel. Allow the development of a good show and great characters, develop a strong fan base, then cancel at the first sign of rating slippage. Perhaps I should have learned my lesson from Firefly and Farscape...Personally, I'll watch SG1 and Atlantis until they cut them off. But I may skip the Battlestar Galactica return and not get interested in Eureka...as SciFi productions, why invest my time if the network prefers to show wrestling?

Guess I let them fool me a third time...

As we are from Germany and can't help to boycott the scifi channel, we have started to send the scifi channel emails very often. Tomorrow we will also start to send letters and the tissue boxes.

Considering how long the show's been running, you'd think other networks would want to show it. It's not just some science fiction show.

If life were a little closer to perfect, it would be on TNT or FX (in which case I would be able to watch it at a lot more hotels)

But hey, we have an entire season to go, maybe the idiots at SciFi will change their minds? Just make sure you watch every single episode from here out on SciFi, live (no DVRs, people)

I'm still in the denial stage right now, in about an hour you'll see a breaking news story about a kid from Ohio killing the president of SciFi.
j/k, though it's not really the time to make jokes...

                              EDIT:
Just wanted to add that if everyone who watches Stargate SG-1 donated even just a dollar to the cause, we could collect enough money to buy our own fricken' cable channel.
                              Expanded:
If we collected donations of around $5 from every single viewer that wants Stargate to continue, we could set up a our own cable channel and show nothing but paid advertisings and a few re-runs of Stargate 24/7. The ads would bring in the extra money we would need and since we wouldn't need the rights to anything except Stargate SG-1 (which I'd bet is up for grabs and probably rather cheep at this point considering SciFi doesn't want them anymore).

Hmm... Now that's an idea... Too bad I'm just a teen from ohio who watches stargate and therefore would not be capable of this...

I haven't seen this posted on here - but whilst visiting Stargate1971.com a video has been put on the site which was created by Peter Gao.
