I looked and I looked. How can I disable my profile page? Not the normal one the new one, the one that thinks it is LJ or something.

the only thing you can disable on the new profile page is *The Visitor Messages* The page itself will remain. You can tell it not to show things by not filling them in on the bio section, decide what shows for your birthdate if at all. You can choose not to have a profile pic or avatar.

basically you can choose not to have anything on the page but the page itself will exist.

This may not be an option per VB for just one user. If you do not want to use the profile page, I would suggest you remove all info so it would basically just have your user name on it.

It is only the new profile page that I want disabled. I don't care if peeps can read my date of birth.... I just do not want messages out side of PMs and I don't want people showing up to me who have visited my page... I do not see the point of it frankly and I don't like it.

OK so how do I stop the messages on the profile page from showing up? I can't find anything in there to stop that from happening?

EDIT: Found it! LOL! I can't see for looking!

Overall..this is part of the last update per the VB software and the best advice we have is just don't use it. Its part of the *whole* as it were. Some will like it and some won't. There really isn't a way for it to be customized to the extent you are asking.

So how do I stop people putting messages there? As I got another one this morning so it seems you can't turn them off?

Can I put them on ignore and that get rid of it? Jeez this makes stalking easy.

Also why do I only have a 'soft delete' option? I want to totally delete them!

as a whole, why only mods have the 'hard delete' option is to remove the 'he said/she said' of any issue. Theoretically, two people could misbehave, one of them hard deleted the stuff that makes them look bad, and all of a sudden, the opportunity to get the 'whole picture' is impossible. And, with all due respect to everyone, it also makes it harder for unfixable 'oops' to happen. Even the mods have accidentally hard deleted stuff.

And even we tend not to use it, unless there are some very good reasons. For example, when we had a mean spam attack, I think darren hard deleted the trash these people posted, and the last time i had someone hotlink to a site that puts up porn images to those that hotlink, i hard deleted them because no one EVER deserved to be exposed to the filth that, ahem, person, linked to.

Scroll down to "Visitor Messaging."

If you followed the directions Darren has given, you will need to log out and log back in for the new settings to take effect. You might even need to empty your cache in order for your system to pull in a new *stored page*

Thanks for replying. I will try the suggested things see if they work.

While I understand, and I actully thought that was the reason, for not hard deleting messages I thought you could hard delete the ones in PMs?

Well that was my impression.

Also I don't care what people say about me (to me, at me) in messaging, I just don't like the feature, I think I may have said this when you were thinking of having these options. I also understand not everyone feels the same way, but that is why having "options" is always a good thing in my book.

You can never have too many options in life
