Then given Stargate is not listed as a children's show, perhaps some commonsense ought to be applied to its viewing.

Funny how fans can't watch sex scenes with their kids, but have expressed no concern, when someone cuts off enemy's head, our heroes shoot Wraith to the head with blood splattering in every direction, or someone slices a body to half. Funny.

When the kids are 8 or 9 I agree with that. However, with the term 'teenagers' I'm thinking of 14 or 15 year old kids, and I think they are perfectly able to watch suggestive scenes without being shocked at the horror of two people making love with eachother. Moreover, I wouldn't be surprised if they watch a couple of sex scenes behind their own computer, when mum and dad ain't looking.

Really, it might be that it's Dutch culture to do normal about sex scenes and that it's disgusting everywhere else in the world, but for some reason I still think it's weird that it's perfectly normal to show blood and violence and beheading on television, but not okay to show a pair of tits.

Oh, and please, could someone explain to me why it's wrong to show some nude in a couple of scenes? I don't have any problem with it whatsoever as long as it's done tastefully and not nude for the nude (although I won't have a problem with that in TJ's case ). Imo, it's much less realistic to not show it - for instance, in Light, Scott and Chloe thought they were going to die in a few hours, so why would they stop at mere kissing?
          Mia: Don't you hate that?
          Vincent: Hate what?
Mia: Uncomfortable silences. Why do we feel it's necessary to yak about bullsh*t in order to be comfortable?
          Vincent: I don't know. That's a good question.
Mia: That's when you know you've found somebody really special: you can just shut the f*** up for a minute and comfortably share silence.

What's missing from SGU for me is Maturity and Honor. I'm not going to nitpick every little scene and compare SG-1/SGA and SGU. Everyone else does enough of that.

But overall, so far for me, that's what its missing. I wouldn't bat an eyelash if Destiny exploded and took everyone with it. I just don't care about the characters enough.

            But that's me

I hope the back half of the season changes my mind.

Dude, again...Even when it comes to teens that should normally be well-informed on the issue, watching a sex scene with your kids/parents is just damn awkward. Violence isn't. It's human nature, I suppose.

And some parents overreact, by transforming that awkwardness into moral outrage. Now, true enough, there are parents with young kids who could be genuinely upset, but they're to blame, for not taking notice of the rating. But, IMO, when it comes to kids over 11, it's simple awkwardness. That and born-again Christians.

Oh, it's Christians we're talking about. Well, that explains everything.

I see. In my opinion, there isn't enough sex to create too much awkwardness.

Could you elaborate on that? I'm genuinely intrigued. Maturity as compared to SG-1 and SGA? What do you mean? The fact that some of them have no control and immediately go reading when they have some free time? If so, I suppose you're right, but given that they're under 30 and stuck in the middle of nowhere, it's understandable. And the perfect, clean-cut, square-jawed types of SG-1 and SGA might have shown restraint in that respect(except for Sheppard's Kirk-ing ways), but, for the most part, those characters always seem shallow.

I know I'm gonna get flack for this, but I'm gonna use a reality show for an example. Survivor Heroes vs. Villains. The Heroes have shown far more villainous traits than the damn villains. And that's the thing about humanity. Shades of gray and complexity. Now, I'm not saying that the SGU characters are THAT complex, but in 10 episodes, they've shown far more potential than previous characters. Maybe honorable heroes that can do no wrong are your thing and, I'll admit, they do okay for dishing out fun adventures, but the third time around, I'm glad they didn't go that route again.

It's awkward when you're 9 or 10. After that you should just get over it.

And I agree, personally and I'm speaking more in general terms, not just SGU, though I think that, at 13, the broom closet scene could be pretty awkward with your mom next to you.

Well, maybe it is the Netherlands thing, but, like I said, even as a teen, I always found it uncomfortable to watch a sex scene with my mom next to me. It didn't happen often, as we didn't really watch TV together or go to movies, but as luck would have it, almost every time we DID watch something together, sex came up...

I wonder what those 13-year-olds are gonna do during 1.5... JM has said -

... if you were offended by that broom closet scene in Air I, I guarantee you’ll be clawing your eyes out of your skull given what we have in store later this season.

Oh, I have no doubt that there'll be real outrage, especially come "Sabotage". It's easy to say "get over it", but, personally, I never could get past that uncomfortable feeling when it came to watching sex scenes with parental figures. Though it was never as awkward as watching porn with my 22-year-old cousin when I was 15...
