many current scifi shows are rip-offs of older shows. It's almost impossible to create something new and original

That episode did not state that the Ancients were the gate builders...

Yes. I am afraid it's hardly conclusive proof that HALO stole all it's ideas from Stargate...
I love both of those franchises.
There are strengths and weaknesses in each, but they don't stand out like ripoffs of one another...

Anyone remember the old video game "Star Control"? The Precursors in that are an even earlier incarnation of the concept of "Ancients". Farscape and Babylon 5 also had similar concepts. I'm sure you could go back decades and still find similar ideas. Maybe in Lovecraft, for instance.

I don't think these ideas count as rip-offs, however. It is entirely possible that no earlier examples of the idea were in the creators' minds at the time they came up with their own version. It's such an easy premise to come up with, that it's almost unavoidable to do.

And even if it is a rip-off... it's not like it would be the first time the SG writers ripped something off. They've copied everything from "Armageddon" to "The Last Samurai", and done just about every cliched sci-fi plotline in the book.

And they know they're doing it. And we love them for it.

Colonel Jack O'Neill: So what's your impression of Alar?
Teal'c: That he is concealing something.
                  Colonel Jack O'Neill: Like what?
Teal'c: I am unsure. He is concealing it.

We do seem to have gotten off topic.

I believe that the Jim Henson Pupeteers should get involved in the SG:U it would be an incredible team joining the current Special effects crews they have with the Pupeteering genius that is the Jim Henson Crew....

ANYTHING would be possible between those 2 teams...

Indeed, Jim Henson's workshops has come on in leaps and bounds, especially with the animatronics we have these days, more non-humanoid alien's as opposed to CGI aliens that look obvious.

look at the gorilla and the dinosaurs in King Kong... flawless...

I like the idea of puppetry instead of cgi for more alien-looking aliens, I thought this worked well in FarScape. This might get prohibitively expensive for one-off races though.

Still, humanoid aliens isn't entirely ridiculous even in a far-flung galaxy. I've read various suggestions over the years that alien life might well look very familiar, because evolution tends to find the same solutions to the same problems. Not my idea, so I can't defend/prove that

But seriously, their CG work is really good. Look at Gollum from LOTR as well.
