Remember all our talking about how doing two shows was too much?

Martin Gero (in his latest interview) said:

I really feel our first drafts are a lot better this year -- not because we're better writers but because we have more time to really think about them. When you're in a rush you tend to just be like, "What have we done before? I'll add a little twist on that." When you're sitting down to attack a scene, it's easy for us to go into gear and just do it out of inertia.

This is how we do an episode." "This is how we write a scene." "This is how those characters talk." [This year has] allowed pause to go back and go, "OK, well we've done it like that. How can we still keep it Stargate but maybe do [it differently]?"

I know. We've been saying it since S8. It's just with the departure of Gekko that things really went south.

That whole Gero interview rankled me. He can write, but I think we'd be better off dumping him through the gate.

And, well... I don't often get too acidic (sarcasm notwithstanding), but his comments just made me want to go off on a rant.

I don't think they got blasé til the later seasons. Wasn't it the S2 opener when they escaped from Aphophis' ship and are floating above Earth in Death Gliders and look down at Earth. I thought that was a great moment.

Note to self: must rewatch S2 opener.
When I first watched the season 6 scene with Jonas I immediately went: "Finally someone who appreciates it!"

Let's imagine for a moment all you've ever wanted when you were a kid/teenager was go into space. Why did I never got the feeling with Sam?
We only had the one comment in Secrets but I think the writers forgot about it and never really used the idea to its full potential.

In early sg-1...being in space was more like a treat or something new for the team. By 9 and 10...it was a cheap knock of star trek.

SG 1 was never about going into space. Which should have made those times they did a lot more special. You just never got the sense it was.

Let's not mention later seasons and huge and honking spaceships they flew around in on a regular basis.

That's why the early season 2 scene when they're in the death gliders orbiting Earth after destroying Apophis's ships was so effective. After ten years of anything you expect people to get jaded, but they didn't have ten years of flying through space. I didn't expect that wonder to go away permanently.
