S10: nostalgia, new viewers & the progression of SG1
She's going to undergo a psych evaluation to determine whether she fits SGC, but it's still a loooooooong way to become SG-1 member, plus in the credits you still see 4 people walking through the Gate - Cam, Sam, Daniel and Teal'c, not 5

You're right. I just heard the recent interview with Brad Wright and I see
why...
Because it leads to complications in writing the series
from the perspectives of more than four main characters,
if I recall correctly.
Actually they've been doing this since the last season and they're writing the series now from the perspective of 6 characters actually, including Landry.

Having 4 characters solves many problems when writing the series.
I'm glad they're taking the time and not trying to rush the episodes- it'll be worth the wait, the preview looks amazing! I think we're going to be in for one hec of a season (dare I predict possibly one to the best seasons of television ever made?).
I don't know if it matters whether there are 4 or 6 main characters, what matters is how well it's written. Friends had 6 main characters in a half hour show and I didn't notice any sacrifice of one character for another. Stargate can handle as many characters as it can do justice to - although 'doing justice' is definitely a subjective view.
