Welcome, Deux Ex Machina! I delurked not all that long ago myself.

A big giant THANK YOU to all of you Shore Leave gals who have checked in with reports and updates. I never ever would have pictured myself going to a con... until I discovered SG-1 last year. As you can imagine it has quickly taken over my life! A con visit for me now? Sure thing when the opportunity ever presents itself (somewhat near me that is)! How very exciting for all of you - I think it is wonderful.

Well while y'all have been partying hard at Shore Leave, I've been slaving away on a new humor vid covering S1-S8. My vid is to Madonna's "Vogue" and I'm super proud of it! Hiatus was driving me mad with impatience when I first thought to do this one. And as a true shipper, I just had to include at least ONE big shippy moment in it! I hope you all enjoy it! You're right about losing your audience if things go on too long. TPTB will also have to watch out that not only will they lose Stargate SG-1 fans, but also the audience for Atlantis, plus the potential audience for the proposed third series and any films. People will just not trust TPTB, and will be wary of watching any more of their products. ( in my opinion)

Unfortunately, I'm not sure whether the discontent that shippers feel affect the overall audience, so to speak. I mean, I'm a shipper, but as things stand at the moment, I'll still watch, and i've read a few responses that some others here would as well. Then there are those who are not shippers who watch for different reasons. The indecisiveness of our ship is not likely to bother them; and the same goes for any Farscape fans who started watching for Ben and Claudia (and I know quite a few of them).

Things would have to get a lot worse and affect all viewers before TPTB would figure out they're doing something wrong. I don't know how bad the drop in ratings for season 9 was, but I think it would have to get a lot worse before it worried them.


Then again, I may not know what the heck I'm talking about. I've just watched Pirates of the Caribbean 2 so my brain's a little scrambled. Man I love that movie!

Hello everyone! Sorry, I've been absent from this thread for a looooong time. But now that Season 10 is very close, I felt the need to come back in here. I don't know why but I have a good feeling for this season!
At least, I'm more excited about Season 10 than I was about S9. I wonder if it could have something to do with Jack coming back...

Hi Ho shipper family...been reading a few posts from Shore leave...sounds like it was a blast. I wonder...did anyone ask Amanda if she could come down under for me? We Aussies are somewhat neglected down here...not enough big name stars come to visit. Hubby officially said I could go to a con if one of the main lead actors come down...and he's happy to fork out the $1000/$2000 ticket too!! So my fingers are crossed!!

It's not the fact that the stars don't want to come, its a matter of the money involved. Unfortunately, because some of the larger convention companies in the US and UK have the money to really entice the actors, their agents ask for the same everywhere else. When you add that to accomodation and airfairs (business class...).

Unfortunately, the convention circuit here in Australia has suffered. Too many people have been burned by unscrupulous groups (myself included) so now most people will only buy tickets last minute when they are sure that the con won't get cancelled on them. As con organisers have to have a certain amount of pre-booked tickets to cover costs, this has lead to cons being cancelled because of "lack of interest"; and that also adds to the wariness of those who have been burned.

I'm a member of a sci-fi club (fSf) who have regular meetings to get together, but also run conventions once or twice a year. Later, in October, they are having a Stargate one, with Rachel Lutrell, (Teyla); Gary Jones, (Walter Harriman/Chevron Guy); and someone from behind the scenes that I can;t remember off hand (commitments pending). They brought Amanda out a few years back (in 2002, I didn't go, but a friend got an autograph for me), and Amanda really liked them and wanted to come out again, but fell pregnant.

Unfortunately, they (the fSf committee) reckon this will be the last Stargate con they will have, because a company in the US (Creation?) have put a rediculously high blanket offer to all actors that fSf just can't match, as they are a small fan-based club, and the actors agents want the same deal from any convention organiser. It's not fair on us, but that's the way of it.

Sorry about the long OT post, but its something I've wanted to mention for a while, whenever someone mentions the lack of cons here in Australia.

It would be interesting to see just what percentage of the Stargate audienece are shippers. I get the feeling its pretty big! But I dont know whether its enough to effect ratings. I agree that I will most likely continue watching because its the only interesting show on tv at the moment that I would make an effort to watch. Before I noticed the ship I was a bit more of a casual watcher and had seen parts of season four onwards, then I think I got to Grace, saw that kiss and was like WOAHH!! and queitly went nuts to myself saying "see Sam seee! I knew they were in love!"

Then the Pete thing put me off, I stupidly didn't watch Heroes and the saw Lost City and was like SQUEE AND Woahhhh!
After that I was into it like mad.
So I would probably continue watching just for the potential of ship and the ocassional cool story. But as I havent seen any cool stories lately so they better lift their game a little!

I live in NSW, in a tiny town of only about 2000 people called Harden, if you know where Wagga Wagga is its about two hours away from there.
I got cousins in Melbourne though and I have to say I really like it there, especially the casino! How slack is channel Seven putting Stargate on at 11:00, I have school in the morning!

I loved Charmed, too, but I didn't list it since it's pretty much over and out. I have the S4 DVD's and just ordered the S5's. (Never cared for Doherty, so the only pre-S4 DVD's I have are S1.)

As for the SG1 DVD's, no, I won't buy S9 (big surprise, huh? <g>), but I also will not buy S8. Despite the wonderful shippiness of Threads and a few other delicious RDA appearances, I consider it a protest against TIIC's not resolving the ship at the end of that season. (Okay, to be honest, I always say they won't get *my* money. But if one of my misguided friends or family members should happen to get it for me for Christmas or something, I wouldn't turn them down. <g>)

Buc would you also accept the x-files season 8 and 9 DVDs as gifts too ?!!

Me, I would because I could think of a great couple of videos I could make with those 2 finale seasons and I also like a few episodes to be honest . I even liked Reyes and Doggett .

S9 SG1 does not appeal to me at all and I' rather get "Dark Angel "season 1 and 2 instead as a gift .
