Well, I don't know about foreign keyboards, but on most American keyboards, there aren't any readily available accent buttons. I've programmed some accents into my Word program so I can shortcut in a document, but I have no idea how to do it in a browser window. It's a major pain in the mikta.

Our keyboards don't have that ability.

Watching the scene actually brought up something interesting. I've decided that if the person I'm about to marry doesn't know what kind of cake I like, I have seriously gone amiss. My cake preferences should be one of the first things sorted out. There should be no question between "chocolate or vanilla".

Now, if it's a question between "raspberry sachertorte" or "caramel praline" cake, then that bears some serious discussion. But something as basic as "chocolate or vanilla" should never come up in a serious conversation. Just, no.

I have a regular qwerty keyboard and it's set on US (international) if I'm not mistaken and I have no problems using them. They're right there (one left of the 1 and the other left of the enter button) and you just have to hit them before using the proper letter, which is one of the reasons I often type 'Tealç' in my stories, hence me having set it to autocorrect in Word!

But even if your keyboard differs, it really isn't the keyboard's fault: your spelling removes most if not all accents on letters, specifically words 'borrowed' from a foreign language.
          Unmade Plans (WIP: 11/20):
Sam's life takes a turn in an unexpected direction when she's faced with an unplanned pregnancy. The decision to keep the baby and raise it on her own will alter her life forever. Relationships are put to the test, especially the one between her and Jack. She doesn't know what to expect from him and he surprises her at every turn.
          On FFnet or AO3

My S/J fics can be found on FFnet and AO3. I also tweet and tumble about the ship and my writing/stories.

Yeah, good point. Besides, shouldn't they be cake tasting and coming up with something a bit more original for a wedding? From the occasional talk about their preparations it sounded like it was going to be a (semi)big event, so what's with the simple cake? Never mind that I really can't see Sam as the huge wedding kinda girl...

Shipper lounge, usually. Unless it's a venting about the ship. Then that could happen here, so long as it doesn't denegrate other characters.

                  Nope. It's left personal.

I prefer tea, but I do have coffee occasionally... with lots of sugar and flavoring like a vanilla or caramel latte!

Back to... Jack likes vanilla and Sam likes chocolate... so their wedding cake would be half/half?
I actually don't like coffee or (most) tea. My hot beverage of choice is hot chocolate
They could always do a chocolate/vanilla checkerboard for their cake

Oh and she either doesn't like macaroons or Mitchell's family recipe isn't very tasty (Line In the Sand).

Those are the only things that come to mind. Well, and there's a handful of times we've seen her eat something off-world (with varying degrees of success) but they never really say what they're eating or what it tastes like, except for Daniel's comments about MREs.
I think she comments that she doesn't like macaroons in general (but I'm going off memory here).

This! How do you not know something like this about the person you're about to marry? (Admittedly, I think I was probably guilty of this, and you can imagine how well that ended lol)

I didn't even know you could do that! (And that's after taking college computer/MS Office classes.) I'll have to make a note of that.

Yep, head over to the lounge. It's great for that

Actually, my idea of macaroons has always been the French kind (the sort with a flavoured cream in the middle of two crusts) rather than the coconut sort, so when I saw Mitchell's macaroons, it threw me for a loop as well. Then I realised the spelling was different and that these two are also normally misspelled, which didn't help my confusion...

But good point about the wedding cake though. From that very telling conversation, it sounds as though they hadn't even gone for a proper dinner date where cake was involved. And she was going to marry him?!

I'm only jumping in to say - my husband only knew what cake I liked because of the wedding I didn't find out until a year later that HE didn't like carrot cake. We worked out (after all, I did just birth our second child and he's still around helping with dirty diapers last I checked... I am a bit sleep deprived though. I hope he's not a hallucination O.O).

There are lots of reasons not to like but not knowing her cake preferences? I'll bet dollars to donuts Jack doesn't know either He does know what jello she likes though...

It's not an across-the-board standard. I'm just saying that's MY standard-- dessert is right up there with the "do you want kids" discussion. Ideally, my significant other will straight out ask me (early on) what my preference is so that they can bake me something homemade, but even if they don't I WILL let them know. I'm that kind of girl.

Didn't storm off after Sam broke up with him? He walked off and took the "For Sale" sign off the house. I don't think she would ride back with him after that! But then again, if they rode together, do you think he would leave her stranded there?

She'd just have to call Jack to come get her!

No, he didn't storm off. He just got up and walked away from her, took the "sold" sign off, dropped it on the ground, and kept walking. Maybe Sam drove in her car and met him at the house.
