Exactly! It was more what he didn't say that was important. But then he hadn't said anything for years, he withdrew while Daniel was gone, you could forgive Sam for not being sure he still felt that way. What was wrong was her settling for second best. That's not fair to Pete.

Yes! That's absolutely what she wanted. And while I think Jack should have let her know how he felt about her that wasn't the right moment because Sam had to stop letting the men in her life make her decisions for her. She had to say no to on her own and for herself because it was the right choice for her. Instead she let and expectations and disappointments lead her into almost making a huge mistake.

It would have been genius but i think only us, Jack and Sam wouldve been in on the joke. I honestly don't think it would've made a difference to Pete, he refused to admit it felt wrong. Pete meet bucket of sand. Bucket of sand, meet Pete.

I think the whole point about Pete is that Jack wasn't going to get involved in Sam's relationship. He wanted her to be happy, even if that meant with someone else and he was willing to let her go. That's why he also didn't try to influence her decision about Pete's proposal by telling her to either go for it or reject it, instead he kept his response vague so that she would make the decision on her own.

That's also why I'm glad they didn't show Pete and Jack interacting; I think Jack would have remained professional (as much as he usually is ) in such a situation though and not show anyone how much it was affecting him, for his own sake/pride and out of respect for Sam's feelings and decisions.

I agree but it still would have been fun watching Pete squirm under the Colonel stare Jack has when the shutters are down.

I hate to repeat this, but "Why is Jack being such a martyr?"

It's not martyrdom...per se.

Jack loves Sam. He knows she loves him. He also knows that unless something changes drastically in the Air Force Instructions (they are not really called "regs"), they cannot have a relationship while in the same chain of command. He loves her enough to let her try to be happy.

I dislike the popular fanon of Jack as the "beat up old relic who doesn't deserve her" storyline. Jack is a strong, dynamic man capable of deep love. That's been shown time and again. Just as Sam is. Both of them have an incredibly strong sense of duty. So strong, in fact, that they are willing to sublimate their own gratification for the greater good.

No martyrdom, simply the pained stepping back from what he believes he/they cannot have.

Editing to add: I've always thought that be delaying their own "big finish," they were engaging in a greater, more operatic display of love, a "Grand Love," if you will. Each time they go somewhere together, face death together, save the planet together, they deepen their love. But...that may be too meta.

I actually like 100 days. It's not an epic fave, but if I scrolled to it on tv, I'd watch it over pretty much anything else. Unless there was a better SG-1 episode on. Or one of my fave Sanctuary episodes.

What I'm trying to say this is that I don't hate it. Oy.
