THE OH YEA WE SAY TIMES
(A top shelf gallus bossom publication)

    AWARD SYSTEM OFFICIAL

It has been confirmed by the Court Liaison Officer that the Samandan award system has been finalised as follows: -

Blue Bean - This is the award of the highest accolade. It will be awarded to those Samandans who display a remarkable dedication to their duty within the land of Samanda. It can be bestowed on any member of Samanda.
It is expected to be bestowed so rarely that it will be affectionately known as the "Hen's Tooth" Award.
Any Court Official can nominate the award

The blue bean is a rare mutation of the common Samanda Bean. It is highly coveted by the citizens of Samanda as its hue bears an uncanny resemblance to the eye colour of the most revered Queen.

Blue Jello Bean. This bean was lovingly created by our very own President - and was awarded to all Samandan's on a complete Whim by the President herself in fit of benevolence.
This bean is a one off never to be repeated award and as such must be coveted by all Samandan's. Agent Dark is willing to offer security advice for storage of said bean

Heart Bean - This award will be bestowed on those Samandans displaying great thought, concern and generosity to fellow Samandans.

This bean is a close cousin to the Samandan bean and indeed does look heart shaped if held in a certain way whilst squinting.
This award is bestowed by unanimous decision of the Court of Samanda.

Viagra Bean - This is awarded to any Samandan attaining the age of 50. It will be awarded on each and every subsequent birthday.

The Viagra bean is the common Samandan bean laced with high potency Viagra
A warning notice will be displayed at the court gates when this award takes place
The Court President must first personally vet all parties interested in the subsequent and inevitable wanton activities

Blue Jello - This award is bestowed by the Court Archivist and Keeper of the Flame to any member she feels so deserves. This award is highly regarded. Anyone so bestowed is also rewarded with an accompanied feeling of great glee. This is the day-to-day award, which will keep the Samanda spirit high and posting stamina great.

    SAMANDAN CURRENCY TO BE ISSUED

The court Accountant yesterday confirmed that the Samandan brown bean will be the official currency of Samanda.
The supply will be under the strict fiscal control of the Court Accountant - who was last seen shovelling the day's takings (bolstered by the yet to wane demand for the buy one Sam get one free offer) into the Court vaults.
The vaults are protected by 2 Jaffa of Teal'c like proportions.
The Accountant also confirmed an interim distribution of beans will be issued in due course and that the distribution would be documented in accordance with accounting standards. (yawn)

Story by: E. Benn and E Z Urscruge.

    OTHER NEWS:

    Ever Been Had?

An aspiring journalist showed great initiative when chancing across the Court Accountant in less than sober condition yesterday at the Old Hagg Inn. Seeing a potential opportunity the journalist deviously won the confidence of the surprisingly unguarded Accountant to bring a lighthearted story to these pages: -

The Accountant was in a less than appropriate state when I sat down next to her and it didn't take much probing to get to the bottom of the poor dear's worries.

"I just don't know what The Court is coming to," slurred the Accountant. "The court was once the realm of serious discussion pertaining to our revered Queen, but now standards seem to be slipping, morals of a questionable nature are bubbling to the surface, sexual innuendo is creeping into the posts. We've taken a turn for the worst. No sooner as I think I know what everyone is talking about and think I may get the joke, another comment is made which pours scorn on my initial conclusions. I daren't join in - I feel isolated, marginalised"

After this rush of emotion the obviously distressed Accountant slumped into an even more inebriated state mumbling about forks in the road and alternate realities.

After some background research it has been discovered that the Accountant is of Prude Brit origins, which may explain her consternation at the relaxed and sexually laisee faire environment of the Court.

And also brings us back to the question…………. Has the Accountant ever been had?!

      1. Entity
      2. Divide and Conquer

Small Victories was blast to watch Sam with Thor and watching her hug Thor is absolutely priceless.

Upgrades is one of my favorite episodes to watch because it's just so much fun, and to top it off we get to see Amanda make that absolutely sweet pool shot.

Window of Opportunity is hysterically funny and although it is predominately a Jack episode, AT is amazing in the scenes she does have. I really love the expressions on her face when Jack is staring in the briefing room and last scene.

Beneath the Surface: My shippiness comes through in this one, and AT is absolutely stunning in this episode even covered with dirt. I would kill for eyes like hers.

Tangent: One again our lovely heroine saves the day by bringing home Jack and Teal'c. WTG Sam!

Serpent's Venom: Oddly enough I managed to miss this episode entirely until a few weeks ago. Had I known what I was missing I would have ran to watch it. I loved nearly every scene with Sam in it. From a very skittish Sam trying to get inside the bomb, to Jack sliding Sam out from underneath it.

2010 : I loved this episode. I know it's a really tragic one but I truly thought AT did a fantasic job in this episode. The scenes between Sam and Janet were wonderfully done and I honestly felt Sam's pain and betrayal when she found she couldn't have any children.

Entity: As I said before this is my all-time favorite SG1 episode or close to it.
I was amazed with AT's performance in this one from beginning to end. Never once did I look at the entity and see Carter.

Like I said, too many episodes that I really like and very hard to pick only three. Hopefully season 9 will be a showcase for AT just as this one was.

And I'm only just now noticing the pattern: In all three eps AT plays two distinct personalities!
Insightful TokraHostess! - you are right... in all three of those episodes, AT got to play 'outside' the normal boundaries of our 'regular' Sam Carter. Such wonderful palettes for AT's acting range, that also add depth and breadth to the character of Sam Carter.

Cheers Astrogeologist I'm way behind with post replies, so this one is just for you! There are quite a few to follow this evening - need to go back and read about 5 pages of posts!!

            Regarding Amanda's directing debut!

I must add my comments - all be it probably after the event again!

Her foray into directing an episode of SG1 has instilled in me nothing but the greatest respect and admiration for this amazing woman.

Firstly - she had to do all the preparation in her own time - which must have been so exhausting for her. Secondly - she appeared in the episode so in addition still had to learn all her own lines and do her acting prep! Thirdly - it was the last episode in the series when everyone would be exhausted and looking forward to the break. Not the easiest of initiations!!

Amazingly the finished product was remarkable. I myself wasn't grabbed by the storyline, but the camera work was interesting enough to keep my attention - and it somehow had a really nice feel to it. What a tribute to her talent to get an award nomination - at her first attempt. I don't know enough about directing that made this ep nominee material - but wow what an achievement!!

I think she must have been watching the other Directors very closely throughout the series as she used some of the same camera work, but put enough of her own thoughts in there to make it subtly different as well.

She obviously thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Her commentary was just wonderful as she managed to explain and enthuse about the experience without it being boring in the slightest. She also gave credit and thanks to all her colleagues. What a sweet lady!!

I would like to see more of her direction, but then that may be at the expense of less of her on screen - which I wouldn't want. I would prefer to see more of Carter not less!! Also I guess the existing Directors would actually like to direct!!

            Well done to Amanda!!

                    Dearest Royal Accountant

Thank you for my very first edition of Oh Yea We Say Times.

I realize now that your true talents may be twofold: counting beans and publishing the news for the kingdom. As such, I hope that you receive the aforementioned Blue Bean (not to be confused with the original BB which had already been so generously bestowed upon all the citizens of Samanda by Madam President). It seems that there is, indeed, room for two illustrious Blue Beans within the kingdom. And, in a gesture of camaraderie and respect for your going beyond the call of duty by publishing our first newspaper, I hereby nominate you for the new Blue Bean - possibly a shade lighter vis a vis our Queen's exquisite eye colour. We can remember that the first BB is the core ingredient of blue jello and hence a much deeper blue. I think we will have no trouble in keeping count of our beans (as long as we are not color blind).

The newspaper is a compendium of important and quite useful information. And I look forward to commenting upon some of its content in the near future.

Cheerio for now, Royal Accountant/Editor! And do be discreet whilst tippling the gin at the local tappy. I would not want to see your Blue Beans taken away for any type of impropriety.

                    Your friend and colleague,

                    Court Jester

I was going through the episode 2010... and found myself enjoying it so much... here's an episode that includes a look at the private life (and softer side) of Sam Carter, and yet keeps her in the thick of things with regards to the main scifi plotline of the story. Sam gets to make the 'final heroic act' as she dies throwing the note through the 'Gate. In many episodes, such final scenes would go to O'Neill. In this episode, he doesn't quite make it - and Sam gets to finish the job.

                        .
This was great. One thing I would add. I heard in an interview that Anderson is unlike other "stars" in that he doesn't insist that all the heroic scenes go to him. Yay, RDA.

yeha, he's a very supportive lead actor from all i've heard

it's not the 'me' show like some others (for example david caruso on csi:miami who seems to demand being in as many scenes as possible)

instead rda is content to let his fellow actors grow under his wing.

RE: RCC writing Sam well in Singularity. Yes, in the early seasons these writers wrote Sam well. At that time, they were under the guidance of showrunner Jonathan Glassner as well as Brad Wright.

Now that RCC is showrunner, perhaps we're seeing more of what he himself thinks of Sam. 'Cause, really, I haven't liked his scripts regarding Sam since he became showrunner. IMO he has reduced Sam to her personal life.

Singularity was neat because it showed a softer side of Sam WITHIN THE WORK ENVIRONMENT. And it was neat because it was off the beaten track of the usual stories, so a breath of new air so to speak.

But now RCC (and the show under his showrunning) writes Sam stories that are MOSTLY personal with very little within the work environment. Even the Replicarter storyline spent waaaayyy too much time integrating personal romantic stuff into the mix. I was really looking forward to this and would have enjoyed the "torture" much more if it had involved her teammates and her care for them, rather than which boyfriend she might end up being with.

Similarly, the "Sam in command" storyline would have been great to see unfold within the work environment with her teammates, but it was virtually ignored in favor of Affinity storylines.

I really hope when RCC says that

Sam is gone in S9 for personal and professional reasons that those reasons are much more on the professional side than the personal.

Interesting insights. In these discussions of writers & show runners (which I guess is overall oversight of the production from script to final filmed version?) I get the sense that maybe "2 heads are better than one" in a lot of ways. Sort of cross checking each other. I've read that AT wanted the writers to show different sides of Sam. Maybe she wanted personal life. But we don't know if what they came up with is what AT would see for the character. My sense is on most shows, actors have little say about their characters' storylines. It's up to them to portray their characters as honestly as possible within the limits of the scripts they're given. AT is admirable in this department, I think we can all agree.

i think, when it comes to sam's personal life, they tend to write an idealized sam. she's tall, pretty, smart, sexy and the writers write her as they'd like to see (or maybe fantastize about...using fantasize in the platonic meaning) a woman act.

they don't necessarily write Stargate Sam in a relationship, but Samantha carter, who happens to be a USAF officer how they'd like to see her acting.

I have no issue with showing sam's personal life...but i'd rather have her personal life be part of an episode, the C plot maybe, rather than plot line A that drives a whole episode

                                Spoiler:

i think that Pete served his purpose. he broke the black widow's curse....which largely came about simply because the writers just weren't paying attention to how often they were using sam as the sg1 love interest adn killing off her boyfriend of the week for angst value. Daniel has just as much of a curse, he seems destined to get involved with women who are goa'ulds, psychopaths and murderers. but daniel's curse isn't as spoken of as much as sam's was

anyway, pete served a purpose. he broke the curse. he showed that sam does mess some things up. she's not perfect in her interpersonal relationships. he set up some tension between sam and the rest of her team (be it interpreted as shippy or not) and he allowed sam to grow.
he served a purpose and now he's gone.

I think he was handled very clumsily from the very beginning...but that's all water under the bridge
