I met RDA first with Macgyver when I was a teen... Figuratively of course.
He was the hero of my Sunday afternoons and I absolutely adored his "ecological" way of solving things, not to mention I found the guy utterly cute.
Then as life went on I had other interests, and he almost vanished from my life except for the rare mentions in magazines and the likes.
When I discovered the pilot of Stargate, I was very surprised to see him there. He gave the character of Jack O'Neill a special polish that evolved along the seasons, and I absolutely loved every minute of it. Then I became interested in the man himself, and his interests -a lot of which I've shared without knowing it!- and discovered a whole new dimension.
As a man, he may not be perfect, but I think he knows it -and is rather humble about it. I also think he knows the real value of life, and his decision to retire to take care of his daughter is a proof to that. I'm already missing him very much (his presence is HARD to forget!) but I acknowledge his decision.
