you dont like how the asgard took on the role of babysittying the galaxy after the acient ditched humankind and let the gaould run amuk?
untrue, they were a race that got dried off and they felt they had to pass on their torch. they probably didn't even have enough ancients for sufficient genetic variation. if they ever met the goauld at all, and they probably didnt

I'd really loke to see us move away from the mythological variety and use historically significant names
i don't. also greek mythology is much more part of western society than some national location like New York. if you want an international ship, don't name it the Hastings.

we stole, learned and adapted so much from the ancient greek that it´s hardly nationalistic.

besides i doubt the Germans would like a " normandy" nor would the Japanese like a "hiroshima"

That was on an example, the names could be those which reflect the international community of course. That being said, ship names always have a bearing on the people who built them and there are few names of mythology apart from the ones used in canon, that will be familiar to everybody. A ships name is a very important part of the process and it is quite easy to use historical names without offending anyone. I would seriously doubt anyone would take offence at names like "Arizona, Victory or Lexington"

thats why all my ships are named after moons and stuff like that

Moons are cool, better than old Greek names, though I admit a lot of moons/planets were named by the Greeks/Romans and Egyptians

                        ~ Historical Notes ~

In 2017 the United Nations of Earth decided that the growing threat from the Lucian Alliance merited the creation of a dedicated warship to back the multi-role Daedalus-class. The United States and China preferred to operate the more versatile 304’s, but many of the European nations put their money into a newer, larger vessel.

After months of prototyping the plans for a battleship were finalized, and the hull of the BBHG-310-01 was laid in 2018. In contrast to the 304’s, the 310 design focused on long-range missile salvos rather than unguided munitions or fighter coverage. As such, the 310’s would have no internal docking bay at all, but conceded to the need for docking facilities with a pair of eternal ports. These ports were also designed to dock modified versions of the Horizon Weapons Platform, increasing the 310’s’ already impressive armament (though the Horizon is not considered a standard weapon). It was decided that the ships of the 310 designation would have names taken from ancient Greek city-states, and the 310-01 was christened the UES Athens.

The Athens was constructed at a shipyard in Great Britain, and she launched in 2023. After testing her hyperdrive with a short jump to Chulak, the Athens escorted a pair of Free Jaffa Republic Ha’tak to a four-way summit between the FJR, UNE, the Hebridians, and the Tok’ra.

Three months after her maiden voyage, the Athens saw her first action in a small skirmish with Serrakin smugglers near one of the Hebridian colonies. She was more than a match for the mid-sized craft operated by the group, and was easily able to disable the ships. The Hebridians impounded the rouge craft and apologized for the incident.

A second 310, the Olympia, was begun two years after the Athens at a shipyard in Siberia. She was completed in 2025, and was assigned to permanent station-keeping over Earth. Four more 310’s are planned, and each will have command authority over the space forces of four colonies. This effectively divides the area controlled by the Tau’ri into five operational sectors (Earth and four regions containing four colonies), and leaves one 310 available for emergencies.

To clarify; are we going with the system where people with entries get two votes: one which may be for their own and one which must be for someone else's? That seems to be a good system.

ok Voting Day, so this is my final entry (only added the Multipurpose bay, since i forgot to add it in this format)

notes: this thing isn't built for subtlety, it's designed to scare enemies away and defuse situations just by appearing. if this thing shows up, our enemy prays it gets the mercy of surrender. Mark VIII's being fired at you is not a pretty sight. a quick death is easily granted.
additonally this ship might be a sledgehammer but it's also a surgical tool. it's wide array of weapons (NOTE: Standard armament, it can switch nukes and missiles as desired) ensures it picks the best tool for the job. it can either purely overwhelm defences with the powerful nukes, or 'gently' deplete enemy shields and disable the craft via the railguns. the ship's CIWS can destroy missiles and fighters with relative ease. additionally, the full fiber-optic network ensures that incomings are automatically destroyed while enemy ships -in autotarget mode- are destroyed with the right amount of firepower. Mark VIII's are considered too valuable for a nuke spam, and in stead are capital killers only.

                                Name: Gaia-Class
                                Type: Battleship
Role: Hyperspace-capable Combatant ship, Deep Space Command Ship
                                Baseline cost: approx. $200 billion

                                Crew:

                                -400+

                                Size:

-approx. 600 meters in lenght, 80 meters in height and some 200 meters in width.

                                Propulsion:

-Magnetoplasma Drive System, based upon the VASIMR engine.

                                -Inertialess Drive System.

                                Power Generation:

-2x Mark III Naquahdah Reactor (1.8Gt/s Max output)
                                -5x Mark I Naquahdah Generator

                                Armor:
                                -Composite Poly-alloy armor
~A plate consists of 3 layers: the Sacrifice, Thermoblock and radioblock.
~The first layer is a Sacrifice Material layer, which takes most of the damage. It is an alloy of several elements, including Nickel, Titanium, Aluminium, Iron, Chromium and Tungsten.
~The second layer is designed to stop the rest of a plasma attack. it consists of mainly Sillicium Carbine, Sillicium Nitride and Nickel aluminide.
~The last layer is a primarily structural layer and radiation-stopping material. it consists mainly of lead, steel, and naquahdah.

                                Skeleton:
                                -high-performance Nickel-Trinium Alloy.

                                Electronic Warfare:
-Fully networked computer system which optimizes performance of the ship.(CON: Central Optic Network)
~there is no wireless network for the standard computers. the entire ship is networked via fiber-optic cables. the mainframe is a crystal computer, and crystal-based computing technology is ubiquitious. small routers are placed throughout the ships to provide a wireless network for handheld computers. their range is sufficiently limited to prevent remote hacking. a secure subspace channel links this ship to others of it's class and any ship which has CON installed.
~among other functions, this system compares sensor data to data from the ship's databanks. known critical systems and weakspots are then targeted.

                                Armament:

                                -12 Vertical Electromagnetic Launch System
                                ~84x Mk VI(1GT) Warhead

                                -4 Forward Electromagnetic Launch System
                                ~16x Mk VIII(50GT) Warhead

                                -18x Tau'ri Plasma Pulse Turret
~2 cannons per turret, includes sensor array and targeting computer.
                                ~240KT per shot, 1 shot per 3 seconds = 80KT/s per cannon.

-12x Goalkeeper CIWS (modified for space).
~each has it's own sensor pod.

                                -22x 111MJ Railgun.
~sufficient ammo to allow all guns to fire 10 minutes.

                                Shielding:

                                -shields are human design
~the BB's shield strenght is that of a deadalus class (around launch time, not after upgrades, including Mckay's shield improvements and years of research)
~there are 2 generators present to ensure maximum integrity: "forward" and "aft" shield generators.

                                Other technology:
-there are 6 Ring Transports for internal use.
~these operate similar to the atlantean transporter booths. a touchscreen displays a general outline of the ship, the user touches the right ring transport, steps in the ring, and once the sensors determine nobody's in the dangerous area, the rings activate. manual imput allows transportation to the ground.

-the ship is equipped with 3 Asgard Beam Nodes

-power conduits are Superconductive Naquahdah alloys. these are placed deep inside the ship behind seperate ceramic panels. the conduits are placed in perfect vacuum.

-a multi-purpose bay is present on the ship.
~this bay is similar to the Bomb Bay of the Apollo. this bay can be used as a bomb bay for Horizon platforms, custom weapons, sattelite deployment, as an F-302 bay (no combat landings, docking is only possible via a slow approach), Jumper Bay, Gunship Bay or F-100 Bay.
~this allows the BB-310 to perform extraction missions deep behind enemy lines, or to deploy all sorts of custom weapons and objects. this is only necessary when smaller ships can not perform such tasks, like when under heavy fire.

                                Costs:

                                Shield: approx. 76 billion $
                                Hull: 4.8 million
                                ammo: 1430 million
                                Engines: 1 billion
                                Hyperdrive: 1 billion
                                reactor: 25 billion
                                Mark I generators: 30 million
                                Rings: 6 billion
                                targeting systems: 4 billion
                                sensors; 10 billion
                                asgard transporter nodes: 18 billion
                                Mark VIII nuke: 16 billion
                                Mark VI nuke: 4 billion

                                total : 160 Billion
the "missing" 40 billion includes the plasma weapons and misc systems

                                Firepower:

Railguns: 60 T/s (60 Tonnes of TNT per second)
                                plasma weapons: 2880 Kt/s
                                Nukes: 884 GT

(note: the nuke firepower seems a lot, but the Mark VIII's account for 800GT, the Mark VI's for 84 GT.)
