Overview
With American Policy becoming more obstinate over the sharing of advanced alien technology used in the DSC-304 and later CG-305 and 307 designs or share lucrative construction contracts even with her allies. Russia, China, France and Britain came to a closed-door agreement to design a new ship for the space navy between them. China would put up the money to foot the bill; British Company BAE and Russian Companies Sukohi and Migoyan would design the systems and construction contracts would be spread between all three countries. France would provide the reactors since they were the best at making naquadah-based reactors outside of the USA. France Later pulled out of the program due to 'creative differences' in the design and would per-sue their own design at a later date which has led speculators to say France pulled out because of US preasure. The result of this Multi national collaboration was the 307, The main advantage over models such as the American 304 was two fold - first that its not a Multi-role platform like the DSC. The 304's were designed to be part warship, part carrier, part orbital assault ship and part deep space transport. A jack of all trades if it were; secondly the design relied on Asgard Technology which the Americans were unlikely to share despite treaty agreements.
The 307 is a ship killer plain and simple, it's a Knife Fighting ship and its design is to fight other ships and destroy them as quickly as possible. The Original design brief called for 6 Asgard Beam weapons to be installed in the port and starboard Wing sections. However with agreements to keep as much of the ships as 'human as possible' these were removed and the requirement also had power generation and routing issues was a major problem. These were replaced by advanced Earth built directed Energy weapons of much less power. These were derived from research on Asgard based beam weapon technology released by the Americans only under IOA threat of a budget slash for its own Programs
However during Test firing at the New Vulcan firing range, the Earth beam weapons could only fire in small intermittent pulses of four 'bolts' every 0.8 seconds, due to a power routing problem at the time the results of this were entirely unexpected. The rapid 'pulsing' of energy caused a much faster decay of the targets shields and armour than conventional steady full powered beam from the Americans own Asgard beam weapons using on the DSC. Doctor Benjamin Pratt and Doctor Redek Zelenka attributed this to a 'rapid escalation cascade effect'. Whereby energy built up in the targeted area much faster in the impact zone with multiple rapid-discharges than with a single high power discharge. This caused such a fast build up that there was far more energy transfer and heat damaged against shields and armour and by extension causing a faster failure rate in the latter's shields and armour systems and in many cases resulted in the complete loss of the target drone.
This was fully exploited in the design as all the beam weapons in the test vessel were then set to "pulse" Discharging systems using the power routing and adding in a rapid decay high energy capacitor into the power system for the main weapons array. This gave the frontal firing arc alone an amazing amount of firepower to bring to bear. Added to this in the 'wing stubs' is a secondary missile battery for Space Intercept Missiles Model 9 Mark B (SIM-9B) Medium range ship to ship missiles using a horizontal Electro magnetic launching system (ELS).
The Russian version however also adds an under-nose beam weapon running at half power in the standard discharge configuration for extra firepower in the forward arc and a rear turret mounted beam weapon on the dorsal side behind the command module. This was added due to poor firing arcs in the rear of the vessel during testing. The Russian Models also boasts a pair of breach loading ELS missile tubes in the forward section and in the rear behind the command deck. These extra systems are ran however at the expensive of auxiliary power that could be used for additional shielding in the event of an attack. The British Variant of the 307 also features Stealth technology and a more advanced Sensor array. With the signing of the Stargate Nations Alliance Treaty the US are releasing more advanced Alien technology that could be included in the Block II Models of the 307 these may include Asgard Power Core and cloaking systems.
Design & Construction
The ship is designed from the ground up to be a 'knife fight' kind of ship, the hull itself it built around the two most powerful engines that BAE could construct for the size requirements of a less than 200 meter long war-ship. From the Top angle, the hull is Hexagonal shaped with sloping plates on the edges at 45 degrees forming 'wing stubs' with an extended forward section to a narrowed point and sloping rear. The design is clearly Asgard inspired even if not technologically designed the ship is sleek, agile and designed to provide as small a target as possible. While not only creating lift and drag when needed but also reduce structural loads and increase control over the ship, also allowing the ship during High G Load manoeuvres to place the load on the strongest part of the structure. Construction wise, the ship is far less compromising, the construction frame makes extensive use of lightweight modern materials such as Carbon Fibre, Reinforced fibreglass plastic (RFP) and Ti-Ai. The frame and longerons of the fuselage are manufactured from high-strength 7475 zinc-aluminium alloy in order to reduce costs and weight as compared to titanium alloys. These components are "super-plastic-forming" which promotes fracture toughness and thermal creep resistance, and then electron-beam welded to improve structural stability. The extensive use of electron-beam welding in the airframe also reduces airframe weight as this allows for the use of heavy fasteners to be kept at a minimum. Bulkheads and the superstructure as a whole are resin transfer moulded composites, primarily graphite-epoxy with polybenzothiazole in areas of higher thermal stress. The load-bearing wing spars are formed from Ti-1100 and a very strong near-alpha titanium-aluminium alloy and reinforced with Trinium. The longerons are, however, 7475 zinc-aluminium as additional structural strength is unnecessary for these components.
The fittings of the "wings" are hot isostatic pressing cast Ti-1100. The load-bearing skin of the aircraft is comprised of composites and titanium/Trinium alloys near the front of the aircraft, with aluminium-lithium towards the empennage. This is then electron-beam welded to the longerons. The Actual skin surface panels are formed from titanium/Trinium on the leading edges of the aircraft and carbon-fibre reinforced para-polybenzothiazole resin. Use of these composites in place of a standard metal skin reduces machining costs and weight. The Engine ducts and power conduits are lined with millimetre copper mesh and Radar Absorbent materials (Kevlar/Carbon-Fibre) and expensive Carbon-Carbon foam in the cavity between the nacelle for thermal insulation from the coldness of space, keeping heat inside the frame and provides a smaller thermal signature on sensors. The 307 got its first baptism of fire during it's a shakedown cruise, Then designated Test Type DX-07 "Sir Edward Elgar" when a Lucian Alliance raiding party dropped out of hyper-space nearly right on top of it and started attacking a nearby Jaffa colony, ignoring the 'little ship'. The DX-07; untested and the crew essentially skeleton military, with most being technicians and engineers went into battle. The ship performed better than anyone could have expected with the routing of the entire Lucian Alliance force. The DX-07 destroying three fully manned Al-Kesh, two Tal-tek and a Ha'Tak Battleship. The Battle also forcing two more Ha'taks to retreat one of which suffered moderate damage while suffering only light damage in return repairable in the field and able to return to its Shakedown cruise. Its second firefight came in the Pegasus Galaxy; nearly six months later a now Production type 307 During an engagement against two Wraith Hive ships culling a fully populated human system. A 307 the 'Victory' successfully held against the brutal onslaught weaving its way though wraith fire while strafing with its own weapons, darting to and throw. While frustrating wraith gunners enough that each ship thought the other was firing on it 's partner deliberately causing them to destroy each other in anger saving millions of Human lives.
Later that year In War games over the Alpha Site operated by the USAF, Three 307's; one British and two Russian against six American DSC-304's and a CG-305 conducted a simulated battle. While a technical victory for the Americans since the 307's were forced into a retreat after taking 'heavy damage' the victory was far from one sided and rather pyretic for the Americans. Since five DSC-304's were 'destroyed' and the remaining DSC-304 was 'damaged beyond salvage' While the CG-305 was 'significantly heavily damaged' to a point it would be in dock being repaired for six months had it been an actual live fire battle. America had to rethink its fleet structure for future operations.
Though without doubt the crowning moment thus far in the 307 Programs lifetime has been the Second Battle of Atlantis. Where a single Russian 307 The "Nichiei Tessla" held back a fleet of sixteen unknown warships on there way to destroy Atlantis. Outnumbered and outgunned the Russian Captain and crew refused to retreat in the face of insurmountable odds until reinforcements arrived even after taking almost critical damage but in doing so saving Atlantis from certain Annihilation. The crew of the Tessla was all awarded medals for valour beyond the call of duty and Captain Andrei Sergekov was awarded the Russian Medal of Gallantry and the American Medal of Honour in a private ceremony. The ship itself was given the Presidential Battle Honour as well as the Seal of Peter the Great.
