The text is from "The Man from Ironbark" by AB Patterson - it was my all time favourite poem when I was a kid. My dad used to read us Patterson poetry in bed, and this one was my favourite. It's about a man from Ironbark (obviously) who goes for a shave. The barber plays a trick on him and makes the razor really really hot, and leaves a huge red mark on the man from Ironbark's throat. The man from Ironbark thinks the barber has tried to slit his throat and murder him
