I thought this episode was great. Sheppard played the conversion extremely well and i reckon this was one of his best ever acting eps.

It was really annoying, i was watching it on sky, so i pressed 'i' and i swear it said part one of two, so i spent watching the whole ep thinking 'This is jsut part one of two.' and it wasnt.

Ah now ive rememberd what i was going to say, i want to congratulate the writer of this ep cos i thought it was great!!!!

Not a bad ep. Not the best so far but it did show how well JF can act as well as Weir. Loved the breaking glass bit, I wonder how they replaced it.
Please do me a huge favour and help me be with the love of my life.

The UK airing of this ep clashed with the Benefica vs United disaster and it's taken till this evening for me to be able to watch it.

        1. Joe put up what's probably his best acting performance as John Sheppard.

        2. That kiss was basicallly Atlantis's answer to the Sam/Jack kiss in SG1's Broca Divide. Having said that, that pairing did go on to raise it's own army of shippers despite that early kiss being due to alien influence. I reckon the writers were just having a laugh at shippers of all stripes with this ep.

        3. Beckett's getting braver by the ep - good to see.

Overall - great ep, better than Instinct but doesn't beat Trinity. Takes Silver medal spot ahead of Siege part 3 though.

really the best chapter for Joe Flanigan... (uh, daddy!)....

Another tnhing... Cadwell wanted to say to Elizabeth that she cares more than normal for John?.... May be he's seeing what I suspected.... She's madly in love with him! isn't she?....

Beckett's character is improving greatly this season!... I love him! h'es so kind, and tender!!!!

Well I found out who's Todd Hann but still don't know who the other soldier is. As I said the credits only mention Todd Hann and Andy Nez. Next to 2 scientist and a nurse that is. No third soldier though.

Plus does anybody know who's who?

Since the latest discussion is about the credits, I think Walker and Stevens may be classed as "extras" since I don't remember either one having a line to say (please correct me if I am wrong), but what puzzles me is, why is Dr. Biro just listed under "scientists" instead of with her character name? I found her a bit less annoying in this one than in "Hot Zone", probably because there is a more annoying doctor next to her!

As for the episode as a whole, characters were spot on and the plot made no sense. I prefer it that way to watertight plot but characters off, anyway. (But it would be nice to have a plot that makes sense too.) This is my favourite off the Season 2 Volume 2 DVD (Condemned, Trinity, Instinct and this one) at the moment, but then it is the only one I have watched twice. Perhaps the others will grow on me on second viewing.

I really liked Weir saying "No" to Sheppard and sticking to it, as I had been thinking she really needed to do that, but it was a shame it turned out that he was right and she was wrong. And I do think Lorne gave up on the afore-mentioned Walker and Stevens too easily. If Shep was there he would have gone back in to see what had happened to them, surely? And I guess Teyla doesn't consider them to be part of her "family"? Or was a scene cut out where they saw what happened to them?
Please... leave the touching to the experts.

This is way after the fact but if you look closely he puts one hand above his head and holds on to the egg sack with it and then puts the entire container inside the egg sack with one hand and just scoops eggs up using just the one hand. The other hand is holding him on the entire time.

Joe was fantastic. You could see Shep's struggle not to get manic at the beginning of his conversion and then finally succumbing and turning into a monster. He scared the hell out of me anyway! The make-up was great, although I'm very glad 'The Hair' didn't convert to wraith tresses! That would've been sacrilege I tell you!!
Agreed, it was brilliant, he was brilliant. I don't even have the words to tell you how brilliant he was I'm glad the hair was left alone too

Elizabeth rocked in this episode, though somethign bugged me about the last scene with her and Caldwall though. I really felt the Liz/John ship a lot from her end and then later from John but it wasn't as much. Yes I'm a liz/john shipper so yes I do have a pair of rose colored glasses but this isn't the case this time. I'm not that much of a shipper.

As for the John/Teyla ship. I felt some of it from John at the start but it was tinted by bug taking over him. I think some of those desires for Teyla are there (wanting her call him by his name/get closer/the whole sexual side) and I think they showed through but I think a lot of the kiss was his anmasil side coming out; though I won't doubt there are sexual feeling in him for Teyla. I was suprised by Teyla I figured she have a different reaction, she seemed very relieaved at the end. I thought she did have some feelings for John (that the feeling I got in season one) but it could have to do with the kiss being cuased by John's tranfourmation that she so releaved. I think she getting over her feeling for her as John has and now have only strong feelings of friendship. I think she could be getting feeling for Ronan. Again another of the ships I like.

I love the ending too. I really loved it when they showed just how much the terms cares for him. They highlighted more of the Rodney/John friendship again when they showed just how deepy Rodney cares. Great acting also by David, the look on his face when he said "Are we really there?" to Weir. Also when greated him as they left to get the eggs. Rodney is always eating a t the weirdest times, I love it Rodney is always so fun, I loved all his scenes with Carson (they go so well together/I always laugh) and the "very nasty, painful splinter"

I noticed the guitar but not the boogie board Cool I love the guitar in the background; it be so cool if we ever got to see him play

Did anyone else see John having to go in and get eggs a mile away. As soon as they talked about going into the caves I knew John would end up going and getting the eggs himself.

He really did; he is seeing what I suspect about her feeling for John. lol All those shipper out there have me going on "was there? wasn't there" any Weir/Caldwell in this episode. From my shipper point of view I can see that maybe he's attracked to her (she doesn't reutn those feelings) and another part of me say no there way nothing. Guess I need to see more episodes.

I could be wrong - but the Walker or Stevens guy who is not Todd Hann looks very like Panou who played Cetus in The Return Part II.

I watched this episode first when I received the DVD set as an early Christmas present- I always find it interesting that they will do anything to rescue Sheppard or one of the main guys. I know that they're the lead characters and can't die, ergo, the writers will do crazy stuff to save them, unrealistic or not. But Walker and Steven's deaths were a bit of a shock- not really sad, because I didn't know them, but still, two men died in the effort to save Sheppard, and they didn't even succeed in that attempt. In other episodes, they go to unbelievable lengths to save someone, sacrificing another one or two or more convenient 'red-shirts' to do so. Like Griffin in 'Grace Under Pressure', poor guy. I actually liked him. Those political eps in SG-1 where Hammond, Landry or the team get grilled for all their poor decisions are based on these sorts of episodes.

Anyway, I know Lorne heard screaming, but he didn't know that both guys were dead yet. What happened to never leave a man behind? He didn't even check on them before throwing in the explosive. It may have been the correct decision, but the writers could have given us more than a solitary scream or two before dropping the bomb like that. Shown the bugs crawling over their carcasses or something, maybe? Although in the commentary, I heard they were straining the budget as it was, and they couldn't afford more bugs, but still...

I know there are a lot of fervent Teyla/Sheppard and Weir/Caldwell shippers on the site...but I'm more of a Weir/Sheppard person myself. I didn't mind the kiss, mainly because Teyla was clearly not into it. I mean, in 'Window of Opportunity', in one of the loops where O'Neill suddenly grabs Carter in a carefully timed kiss, there was no resistance there whatsoever [yes, I'm a Sam/Jack shipper too...] As for Weir and Caldwell, I like that they're becoming friends, but I don't necessarily see any relationship happening. But then, a lot of these things are based on interpretation and wishful thinking anyway. Or wilful denial, as the case may be...!

This ep disappointed me in that he went to Teyla to see if they were all right after he kissed her, but we didn't see anything with Weir after he tried to strangle her. I mean, wouldn't he think that was important, making sure the expedition leader/friend/whatever she means to him was okay? But I still liked her going to his room to check on him. Mainly because the commentary was so silly at this point. Joe Flannigan was going on about product placement, they were teasing the writer about his age, and then when Sheppard showed his mutated side, they were cracking up about 'the doctor told me not to use Rogaine and Viagra at the same time' and 'You should've left it alone, but you had to go and pick at it...' I like commentaries with the actors, but generally find the director/writer/producer or whoever annoying. Especially how they keep interrupting actors, like they're so thrilled to be heard by an audience that they want to milk it for all it's worth. It kept happening here, and in 'Grace Under Pressure'. Which was frustrating, because I wanted to hear what Amanda was saying, but NO...
'I am frightened that the flame of hate will burn me
will scorch my pride, scar my heart
It will burn and I cannot put it out...'

... but my long-held belief is that the mystery that is Sheppard is somehow tied to the mystery that is Atlantis... Something that JF himself has hinted at in the past.
I am really looking forward to the time when we really get a glimpse of the man behind the mask whether he be genetically mutated, bug-bitten, or Wraith-beseiged.
Ohhhh! That's interesting. Like Lost meets Atlantis. What hints? Can you elaborate? He was never meant to be on the expedition in the first place.

I certainly think he is THE person in the series. When the expedition went through the gate, we didnt see Weir's pov but followed Sheppard through. Please share your thoughts about the mystery of Atlantis.

I loved this episode very much is one of my many favorites of the season. The episode when I first saw it, I didn't understand it, but after seeing the episode a few times I started to understand it. Seeing Sheppard changing into a bug, because of being biten by Ellia and she transferred a quantity of the iratus bug retrovirus into his bloodstream.Seeing his abilities were very cool, love it when it jumped high in the air.

It was great to see the team all working together to save one of their own.

And I loved Weir standing up to Caldwell, although I don't think he's that bad a guy.
