Afternoon Whumpers!

OT but......for GG and all those who live up north.......I thought of you guys while watching the Packers playing in all that snow Saturday! My teeth are chattering NOW thinking about it. How about some "Shep-getting-lost-in-a-snowstorm" whump? (see, I made it on topic)

I was absent yesterday so I'll catch up.

Actually it was rather warm.....upper 20s low 30s. Yes, That's WARM for this time. We went from a forecast of scattered snow showers (meaning no accumulation) to a snow advisory of 5" of the stuff. WTF??? It was really weird.

As for whump.......Now see, I'd rather see Shep walking along in the snow (not too deep) to the gate and then slips on some ice hidden underneath the snow, taking a nice fall that breaks his tailbone. yeah....the whump potential there.

oh martin gero- his obsession with mckay really makes me angry, i dont think a writer should be so singleminded and i wish tptb would make him write for the other characters sometimes. i thought martin did a great job with conversion, mostly, but even he admits on the commentary he didnt want to write it!
but alan ive really been impressed with- TR rocked, the seer was pretty ace and SOW was mostly enjoyable= hes def got a good handle on the characters..so im glad he wrote outcast, and im glad to finally be finding out something about shep's family.

trio is the only ep in the second half im not looking forward too...considering how MG wrote sam and mckay in GUP and from what ive already seen from the spoilers it sounds...blah...mckay has been rather competant this season so far, ive liked him again..but i worry what so much mckay/sam "banter" will do!!
ok the lack of shep and my dislike for keller also puts me off the ep!

im not bashing the guy, i like him for the most part but i dont get where all the worship comes from.

i like the idea of shep going through the ice, but then knocking his head on the way down-we gotta get some blood in there- so hes unconscious and falls into freezing cold water..then ronon has to jump in and save him.......and of course for some reason the gate wont work and they have to stay until someone comes through and so they have to make a fire to keep sheppy warm ..maybe they go to a cave...where shep is suffering from hypothermia and has a fever and is getting all delirious and hes very ill and the team all worry about him.

I'm not sure where the hero worship comes from....but I can imagine it happening to us if we had a writer that wrote real meaty Shep whump that made it to the screen on a consistent basis.

Even better.......they can't find any fire wood so Shep has to be saved with body heat (although hopefully not from Ronon or Rodney!!) And of course, Shep can't stay in those wet clothes, so we have to get them off......WOW....this is quickly going into the new realm of Porn Whump. ROFL

Since we don't get much snow down here (last time was on Christmas 2004 and look what happened to us in 2005.....Katrina and Rita!!!) I have to rely on your expertise on Snow Whump. Now get Shep involved in hurricane whump and I can help there.

It's 64 here right now. In January.

Although I think I'd be a bit scared if he wrote for another character(s). I mean he's got McKay so down pat, he probably wouldn't get a good handle on any other character. I'm not saying he couldn't, I just don't think it would be as in character as some of the other writers. Does that make sense? I feel really brain dead today.

I agree on his ability to write McKay, but I think he also has a good handle on the relationship between Sheppard and McKay (calling McKay "buddy" in GUP and that ending to MC!). I wonder if they default to MG when they decide they want to do a McKay story.

It does seem that MG has written some of my favorites: The Storm/The Eye, Brotherhood, The Siege, Conversion, Coup d'Etat, The Return, Sunday (the Ronon and Sheppard scenes were inspired), First Strike, Adrift (another great example of the relationship between Sheppard and McKay), BAMSR. Strangely enough, he didn't do ToR.

i think that MG has written for mckay so much now that its all a bit boring and repetative. millers crossing was a boring ep, until the shep dilema came into it. this year im not saying anything against mckay eps because its mckay..ive loved how mckay has been this year, and thats been up to what the other writers have done with the character.
i still dont think its right...if hes so good with mckay then maybe each writer should be given a character to write for...but again i think that would be boring after a while, people wouldnt be able to look at the character from a different angle which different writers do...Ken C rocked at writing shep because he had a new perspective on him.
i think MG was one of the reasons i began to really hate mckay because hes just so wrapped up in him. at least tptb limit him to only 2 mckay eps a season.

I wrote a hypothermia fic once, I think it's one of those whumpy ideas that's difficult to pass up.

Well as Roo pointed out Martin Gero did a great job with both Sheppard and Weir in Conversion and he did well by the other characters in Tao of Rodney so he can write the other characters but if you look back through the episodes he's written they are, for me anyway, a bit hit and miss. He's written some great episodes but he's also written some pretty dire ones.

~EDIT: I just read above that he didn't write ToR, I just assumed he did as it was a McKay ep. *shrugs*

He does write good Shep and McKay moments. It's like he says on The Lost Boys commentary, there's a genuine warmth in the scenes with Joe and David.
