I think all in all...

They didn't go down that route since it would pretty much break up the team... there are still boring stuff to be done in Atlantis... and someone have to take care of it..if John is in charge he would have to do it..and then that will take him away from being the leader of this team... I really don't want to see John behind a desk and saying bye bye to his team when they go out... or maybe for him to leave with them ,,then rest of his time sit and do office stuff ,,they guy would drop dead from never getting any sleep so I pretty much saw that one coming..that he wouldn't step up and lead the whole expedition... and it's fine by me... with no military person over him he is however the ranking military officer on Atlantis,,,so he has a large responsibility enough already there...
