Oh my gosh, that nearly made me cry! I had my hand clapped over my mouth the entire time. And I only read the words! That is such a perfect song for John. That's the real him, not the one that we saw in S4 and 5. Because we all know that he would never quit until he found her! Never! *raises a hand and points defiantly at the ceiling*

Since she is who she is now, against his orders, he follows her lead even though it hurts.

No, you make a very good point. I agree with you actually (I had noticed that line when I first read it and it was among those that brought on near tears, but I just got a little bit carried away in my enthusiasm ) But yeah, if I actually calm down and reasonably think that's how it was.

That's a very good point. In Lifeline, she told him, practically screamed at him, to go. To not be reckless and jeopardize everything by trying to rescue her, but instead to leave her behind so that he and the others could get back to Atlantis with the ZPM. It's much like the debate between Elizabeth and John in Rising over rescuing Sumner & Co. and the parallel conversation between Carter and Sheppard about rescuing Elizabeth in Reunion. But if they could come up with a way to find Elizabeth and rescue her that had a shot at working without endangering Atlantis, then I think Elizabeth would have been able to accept it despite her previous order. Poor John.

I agree with you. No matter how they wrote him it was obvious to me that John was doing what was best for her and what she would have wanted him to do. I watched BIS today after not watching it for a very long time and it was like seeing it for the first time. I was particularly touched by how when Rodney was talking to Elizabeth about how she was confronting her own mortality he was glib and freaked out by the weirdness of it. Not once did he seem to think about how it was affecting her. John was just the opposite. He was never far from her side while she was watching over old Elizabeth and seemed to understand perfectly how she was feeling. And in the last scene on the balcony, the way he looked like he just wished he could say something to comfort her was heartbreaking. How you could watch that episode and not see the Sparky connection is on of life's great mysteries.
