Elizabeth Weir/John Sheppard Appreciation/Ship/Discussion Thread

So...I was naughty and ventured into the anti-shep/weir thread.

I have to confess I'm just bewildered. People are happy Weir is dead. Happy. Seriously. I didn't like Ford much...but dead is harsh.

And there's the whole Weir is too old for Sheppard nonsense. Torri's younger than Joe. I think it's self-insertion. Younger women want John with the younger character because it's easier to imagine themselves as Teyla.

That's not even proper shipping. Shipping involves seeing something between the characters, not seeing the possibility of getting the character yourself. I know we all do it, to a degree, but I think it happens less with Elizabeth because she's a more complex character.

Nothing against Teyla, I love Teyla. I just think Teyla and John work better as friends becuse they're too similar to be together. They're warriors. They wouldn't fill in the gaps. They'd agree.

Elizabeth is an intellecutal idealist. She needs a warrior because John can protect her when she gets in too deep and she can inspire him when he gets lost.

I think that Elizabeth can make John a better person and same goes the other way around. They do share some qualities and values, but they also bring in a challenge into each other's lives, especially in those early years when they had to learn how to respect the other and see things from others point of view.

Elizabeth looked older in S1 than S2. Yeah, i know it sounds weird, but it looked like that to me. I think it's because the hair... and maybe Torri gained few ponds? Anyway she was just stunning in S3.

Teyla and John.... that's like trying to mix oil and water. It doesn't work. They are friends, there's a brother - sister vibe there, they are great teammates and sometimes Teyla seems too strong for him... maybe something like a wrong kind of challenge. She can't make him a better person like Elizabeth does.

Elizabeth has taught John how to be a leader. In canon terms - that's her legacy to him. He is now what he is thanx to her, she made him a better person.

Now, the age difference made me giggle. Really, let's just pretend that Elizabeth was actually older than him. Why is it so much easier in society to accept a younger woman with an older man than the other way around?
I find it great when a woman much older can captivate a younger man in so much that he would take himself "off the market" and peruse a relationship with her.

Our society thinks that women are worth only while young and pretty, which makes all of us blind to true beauty of every person. Honestly, if you try and open your heart and look at another person as a person, another fellow human being - how can you find anyone ugly?! Everyone is beautiful, only if you allow yourself to see that.

This is slightly offtopic, but it comes from after doing something sparky related... has anyone been having issues with FF.net lately? I submitted a story at 5 pm yesterday, and it still wasn't popping up this morning... I deleted it and resubmitted a lil while ago... dunno if it will work, but...

FF.net does that sometimes. It will come back to life - eventually.
