Just finihed rewatch the Atlantis Premire, than I taped on VHS. It gave me a thought.

With Major Sheppard being a natural with the gene. Could he be the closest thing to a living Ancient that we have?

*Closest living descendant of the Ancients.*

Dr. Becket has it too though, as do a handful of other characters. It's only due to TPTB that he's a natural, as there is no point in having a person who is naturally able to control Ancient technology who isn't a main character.

Thats true, but one thing is Dr. Beckett and Sheppard are the only ones that truly have the gene and are descendants of the wraith. The others were injected or got it from the thing in the wall.

              Wraith? Didn't you mean Ancients?

I'm surprised no one has wanted to discuss Major Sheppard since Sept 6. Maybe there's another thread?

Anyway, I'm really liking the Sheppard character. In "Home", when he closed the door after letting his buddies into the apartment, the look he had on his face was so moving. I knew he knew something wasn't right from that look. That was my "Wow, he's good!" moment with Joe Flanigan.

                    In the episode "The Storm"...
                    s
                    p
                    o
                    i
                    l
                    e
                    r
                    s
                    a
                    c
                    e
                    f
                    o
                    r
                    y
                    o
                    u

we get to see the leader that Sheppard is. He was tough with Mr. Menarian. And his skills as a strategist were really used in that hostage situation. I thought Flanigan did a great job.

I think Shepard is probably like a deceandant from the Ancients who came back to Earth after Atlantis sank into the ocean on the other planet.

The rest of them might be deceandants of Ancients before they left Earth?

Making Shepard a good many generations closer to them than anyone?

Although the explanation, "because he's the main character" works just fine as well.

That was a big coincidence that he just happened to be O'Neil's escort and he sat in that chair..and the coin landed the way it did..is this his destiny?

I don't think having the Ancient gene, however he has it, gives Sheppard any more advantage than anybody else when it comes to activating the Ancient technology. It's just a part of him, like he has dark hair. What gives him the advantage is his personal way with dealing with the world.

You saw how he has lightning fast reflexes and can think on his feet when that probe came after O'Neill and him in "Rising". You know he must have a great imagination to be able to picture that bachelor pad so realistically the Mist thought it was real. And Sheppard had multiple things going on in his reality. Weir and McKay were really only dealing with one person at a time. Sheppard had a whole party going on with all the different personalities in a place that wasn't even real.

I think its his ability to quickly picture what he needs that lets the Ancient tech come up with the maps and devices that pop up when he needs them. He didn't need to be trained, it just comes naturally to him.

I think Sheppard actually has something in common with McKay. They both deal with the physical world. Sheppard deals with what he can see and touch, which sometimes makes him not so good at dealing with people. He doesn't have the patience for the dance of negotiations. McKay deals with the physical world, too, although he deals more with abstractions and that makes it harder for McKay to connect with the outside world.
