I do know that DirecTV could easily give better ratings then Nielsen, as they can easily see what the people are watching. And DirecTV has a huge customer base compared to Nielsen. Too bad they don't use something like the satellite and cable companies instead of Nielsen.
Yup I agree with you there. And to be honest I think that most SGA fans are overseas. At least that is what it seems like to me. They just had an article in SyFy Portal that said that for Torrent Freak SGA was the most pirated show a week or so ago, even topping the Olympics. People in the US don't have to do that, so all those people are overseas. Here is the article if you're (or anyone else) is interested.

Thank you, that's very interesting to me. And you are right, I can't see why the US people would need to pirate the show, unless they don't get cable/satellite.

And I really really wish the person posting this petition numbers, would not break in every 2 or 3 posts with a new total. I did sign the petition, but I don't think it will matter unless you get a cool million signatures. Those petitions don't mean much.

That's finny, and ironic. Everyone seems to know that the ratings are not a measure of how many people watch Stargate. Yet that's what is being used as the measure. Sounds a bit psychotic to me. Could someone ask TPTB to give us the ratings numbers for SGA, and tell us what it would have to be to save the series?

A plea from someone with a relatively small screen (MacBook, 13" widescreen): writing in bold and large letters doesn't necessarily make a post better legible. Its just toooooo big. Could you please use smaller fonts? Thanks a lot!

I don't know, but Eureka is hitting 3.3 million viewers, and Ghost Hunter is hitting close to 3 million. I think Atlantis hits "on average" 1.5 million, sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less. Which is not bad for a Friday night time slot though.

Like I said tho, Friday nights are not the best night for any network.

Yup. If you switched Atlantis with Eureka, SGA would be getting those ratings.
And I'll bet that they don't put SGU in the Friday 10PM spot. They want to attract "younger" viewers, which means that a Friday night spot would kill it because most of the younger set (18-30) aren't home on a Friday night!! If they wanted higher ratings they should have put SGA on a different night. Not to mention that the 10Pm spot isn't good either for those that have to get up and go to work or school very early.

Here is a list of advertisers that advertised during Stargate Atlantis the night of sept 5 2008 (I recorded the show on my recorder and made a list when I played it back)

Of note is that I get my programming off Direct TV, as Dish and various cable providers can insert different commercials in there area if instructed to do so, a few of the ads however are suppose to run National in every market place.

After the opening credits an ad for Farmer’s Insurance was introduced as either “The or One,” “of the Sponsors of our show” this was the only commercial that was introduced this way, so they are a main sponsor of the show, and should probably be the main target of a letter writting campaign.

Ford also appears to be a main sponsor as they had several ads

Here are the rest of the ads in the order they ran
                      -------------------------------

They are the Nielson rating not the number in millions of viewers. These are the figures that Briangate has: Season 3 - 1.9 Million viewers, Season 4 - 2.0 Million viewers, Season 5 - 2.2 Million viewers, he is the one that started the S5 ratings thread and know much more about ratings than me.

Yeah, but they are still half of what Eureka and Ghost Hunter gets. And trust me, I don't "get" the attraction of Ghost Hunter, LOLOL. They never find anything conclusive. It's the same week after week after week......

And the wrestling? OMG, Fiction-yes, Science-no. Doesn't belong.

Eureka looks like a fun show, but I've never gotten into it like I have the Gates.

You hit the nail on the head when you mentioned it being Friday. Friday nights are not the best night for programming especially in the summer.

I don't see what the big attraction is towards Ghost Hunters, Ghost don't exist so I am really perplexed as to why so many people are watching such a lame show when you know its all an act and I don't consider this or shows like Wresting to be Sci fi well not to me at least sure its fiction but science (i don't think so). I think the ratings are rigged and the fact is some people aren't able to purchase cable or are not able to see the Stargate because they simply cannot afford it, so people buy the dvds or get it off the internet like buying it off Amazon. They should push up times for Altantis imo, to like 8:30 or 7:30 imo.
